There are approximately 137 Pal species populating the Palpagos Islands, but trailers and teaser images indicate that more are on the way. The inclusion of some new Pals might be what keepsPalworldalive, especially as players succeed in catching ‘em all.
Palworld Needs New Pals (Or a Story)
In the survival crafting game,Pals can be both helpers on the player’s home baseor fellow adventurers as players explore the extensive map. There are caves to delve into, mountains to climb, and deserts to endure. The sheer breadth of the world and its myriad environments offer a lot of interest, as do the Pals that are native to these areas. But, eventually, players will succeed in catching every single Pal. They need a new mission after that achievement. InPokemon, the franchise that has so obviously inspiredPalworld, players have several goals to juggle:
Pocket Pair prioritized the technical release ofPalworld, ensuring that players can dig into the survival crafting, base building, and creature catching mechanics. So far, the main story ofPalworld, namely the purpose behind the towers where players challenge faction leaders, is minimal. The developers can keep the game alive by adding in more story content, and/or adding new Pals for players to pursue.
When Will There Be New Pals?
As it is now, there are 111 Pals and a few dozen Pal variations (for example, an Ice Kingpaca is different from the standard). The first generation of Pokemon boasted 151 Pokemon, a number that the devs at Pocket Pair could either aim for or even surpass. There is evidence for more Pals that have not yet been included in early access; teaser trailers highlighted a giant whale Pal that can fly, for instance, and a huge serpentine dragon Pal. Those who have investigated the game’s code have also implied the existence of unreleased Pals like Dragostrophe, a Dark and Dragon type Pal, and the aggressiveDark Mutant Pal that bears a striking resemblance to Mewtwo Y.
In all, there are approximately seven Pals so far that are unaccounted for in the Paldeck. The game’s development roadmap also claims that there are even more still being worked on by Pocket Pair. BecausePalworldis, ultimately, still in early access, players have to temper their expectations. This also means, however, that there is reason to hope for many new Pals to appear by the time ofPalworld’s full-fledged release.
A full release forPalworldmight happen in 2025. According to a statement onPalworld’s Steam page, Pocket Pair plans “to improve the quality of the game by making various improvements throughout early access for at least one year.” Pocket Pair further clarifies that the full release will include new Pals, new areas and dungeons, and new buildings and items, but a year is a long time to wait.
There is an argument to be made for releasing new Pals sooner, rather than later. Gradually releasing Pals over this coming year would keep players interested in the game and incentivize players to continueworking on their Paldecks. Pocket Pair could build hype for the full release by teasing new Pals or challenging players to take on new boss-level Pals. This could take some inspiration from the raids inPokemon, given thatPalworldhas already found great success in followingPokemon’s footsteps. Without the release of new Pals,Palworldrisks getting stale and losing its considerable player base before the game has a chance to enjoy a full release.
