Summary
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetare about to see their second DLC, The Indigo Disk, released on December 14, and while it’s probably going to be a while before the next mainline games come out,PokemonGen 10 has a lot to live up to and a lot to fix.Pokemongames may not be bringing past battle gimmicks back even if they’re deeply loved by the community, but there are some staples and rules they abide by with new generations.Gen 10Pokemongames could feature new cross-gen evolutions, and while there are equally deserving critters in past generations, Gen 9’s Paldea also has good candidates.
Gen 9 itself had several great cross-gen evolutions, such asPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Farigiraf, Kingambit, and Annihilape, and this further proves how impactful this particular evolution gimmick is.PokemonGen 10 is likely a couple of years away at the very least, but with multiple pocket monsters added in Gen 9, it’s not impossible that some of them will get to enjoy a new evolution after just a few years since their introduction.

Gen 9 Pokemon That Should Get a Cross-Gen Evolution in Gen 10
Spidops
Although Spidops inPokemon Scarlet and Violetis not entirely a bad pocket monster, it is far from being a good one. The critter was given a unique move that acts likePokemon’s Protect and Detect, but also decreases the Speed of any attackers that make direct contact, and while Silk Trap is a decent signature move, it’s not enough to make Spidops decent. The critter has low base stats and is a pure Bug-type, which is also not a good type offensively or defensively. An evolution in Gen 10 would be ideal for this critter.
Lokix
PokemonGen 10 should improve Bug-type Pokemon, and Gen 9’s Lokix is another testament to this. While it remains a unique critter because of its looks and thanks to its Bug/Dark type combination, which was unused up untilPokemon Scarlet and Violet, it doesn’t pack a punch in battle and it’s rather frail both stats-wise and in terms of weaknesses. A Lokix evolution in Gen 10 could double down on the glass cannon philosophy of this critter, making it stronger on the offensive side, but a Focus Sash wielder at best on the defensive side.
Klawf
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Titan Klawfis probably memorable for some players as it’s one of the most spectacular fights in the early hours of the game, but the actual critter is not an exceptional addition to the overall roster. The problem is that not only Rock is a very weak type defensively, but Klawf’s stats and moves are a bit all over the place, making it a sort of jack of all trades, master of none. Giving it an evolution in Gen 10 could capitalize on its spotlight inPokemon Scarlet and Violetwhile also making it more viable.
Veluza
Despite its name vaguely resembling “velocity” and “speed,” and despite the Pokemon’s incredibly annoying behavior in chasing players on every body of water, Veluza is actually rather slow when it comes to stats. Not only that, but it doesn’t have the stats or the type combination to be good at using Fillet Away, so an evolution in the nextPokemongames would be a great way to make Veluza stronger and more in line with its supposed in-game behavior. In fact, Veluza has seen the most success in competitivePokemonbattles with a Final Gambit set, which is probably not exactly what Game Freak envisioned for this Pokemon when it was designed ahead of Gen 9’s release.
