Two professionalOverwatchLeague players have been fined after being caught posting rude messages in the game’s chat.OverwatchLeague pros have been fined for this sort of thing before, such as the time aLondon Spitfire player raised his middle finger to a cameraduring a match.
On the officialOverwatchLeague discipline tracker, it has been confirmed that Los Angeles Valiant player Jung-won ‘Lastro’ Mun and San Francisco Shock player Dong-jun ‘Rascal’ Kim have been fined $1,000 for the inappropriate messages they posted during the weekend’s games. Using theOverwatchchat feature, Lastro wrote “sex” and “big d–k” and Rascal wrote “big d–k” and added some inappropriate symbols.

The two players didn’t know that their messages could be read by viewers and their teammates, Caleb ‘McGravy’ McGarvey and Matthew ‘Super’ DeLisi, had to tell them to stop. However, fanswatchingOverwatchLeague on YouTubewere able to take screenshots and make video recordings of the game’s chat, meaning the players were unable to hide from it.
On Twitter, Lastro apologized, saying that “I thought the viewers could not see the match chat because everyone was typing in it.” TheLos Angeles Valiant playeralso wrote that he “should not have done it regardless of whether the viewers could see the match chat or not” and he will make sure something like that doesn’t happen again.
While the two players have faced fines from theOverwatchLeague, many fans seem to think it was hilarious. In response to Lastro’s apology, several fans have responded to say how funny they think it is and to say that they are now fans of his. Some fans, who love makingmemes of everything in theOverwatchLeague, have also sent supportive memes to tell him that it’s okay that he messed up. A few have also created entire videos joking about the rude chat messages.
OverwatchLeague viewers also know that pros have done much more offensive things and have been given bigger fines or suspension. In March 2018,Dallas Fuel player xQc left theOverwatchLeague teamafter being fined a second time for using a racially disparaging emote while streaming and homophobic language against another pro. Timo ‘Taimo’ Kettunen, another Dallas Fuel player, was also fined for using homophobic language while streaming.
