Despite the lack ofOverwatch 2release announcements, and Activision-Blizzard being knee-deep in class-action lawsuits, fans of competitive first-person-shooter gameOverwatchcontinue to create artwork of their favorite heroes. Recently, another player drew and shared their amazing rendition of arguably one of the most popular characters in the game, cyborg ninja Genji.
Though its gameplay is not as unique as others out in the market, manyOverwatchplayers continue to patronize the title likely due to their favor over the game’s 32-character roster. The developers likely have noticed their popularity, and exploited the fan favorites by creating special content for them. So far, Blizzard has released manyOverwatchcharacter animated shorts, and even brief graphic novels. All of which draw attention to these heroes, and provide their fans with a brief glimpse of their lives before and afterOverwatch.

On Reddit, artist Bruce with username @parkbrucie shared their unique take on theblade-wielding ninja hero Genji. Using a variety of copic markers, pencils, ballpoint pens, and a white pencil for highlighting, they recreated the specific scene of Genji jumping down to fight a foe in another Blizzard title,Heroes of the Storm. Though Genji is known for his white and grey armored suit with bright green highlights, Genji’s monochromatic outfit in the artwork can easily pass off as one of his many availableOverwatchskins in the game.
Many replies on the Overwatch subReddit complimented the artist on their clean lines, amazing shading, and different take on the Overwatch hero. Other fans pointed out that the artist made Genji look very dramatic and realistic. On their other social media platforms, the Redditor seems to favor using traditional art materials to draw their own original pieces, and this preference can also be seen in their Genji artwork. The artist has also used these materials to draw fan art of other pop culture icons such as DC’s Batman, and Marvel’s Iron Man and Groot. Given their talent for creating realistic portraits, hopefully the artist will also draw some of the other less known characters ofOverwatchin the future.
WithOverwatchseemingly still enjoying an active player base and community, artworks of its many popular characters will definitely pop up online from time to time. Not only do fans create unique artwork, some even dress up andcosplay as their favoriteOverwatchheroes. Hopefully this is enough content to engage the game’s community, and keepsOverwatchafloat amidst all the issues surrounding Blizzard and the lack of updates about its sequel.
Overwatchis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
