As Jeff Kaplan noted as he took the stage at BlizzCon 2019,earlier leaks revealed a lot of the contenthe was on stage to show. Regardless, Blizzard Entertainment confirmedOverwatch 2through a few trailers including a gameplay-centric one that showed off a number of new features inside the game. Players will likely have a lot more say over the customization of their favorite characters this time around.
WhileOverwatch 2will feature PvP elements that fans have come to expect, one of the biggest new additions is a co-op PvE mission mode. Blizzard intends this to be a major part of the experience that offers changing scenarios, new enemies to fight off, and a progression system that promotes player customization.

The initial gameplay trailer highlights this new progression system with Tracer, who make sit to level 10 and unlocks a new tier of talents in a similar way toHeroes of the Storm. At level 10, the player has two options and can pick one to utilize.
In this case the player can select from Flash, an ability that makes Tracer’s standard blink ability damage enemies. The other is Chain Reaction which causes her Pulse Bomb ultimate to have secondary explosions from enemies damaged by the initial blast. While it’s not confirmed, these upgrades appear tied to the PvE experience as many of them would likely cause balancing issues in PvP.
Thegameplay trailer also hints at ability customizationoutside of this upgrade system. While not getting into much detail, move variations are shown off like Mei’s Cryo-Freeze which now causes an area of effect blast when she breaks out of it. Reinhardt gets a leaping hammer strike and Genji is able to throw a cutting projectile ahead of him.
Thankfully,Overwatch 2isn’t a new starting point for everyone.Unlocked cosmetics and gear are all being carried forwardfor veteran players jumping to this newest title. For players who may not want to upgrade, Blizzard is also making all new heroes and maps available on both games, keeping the overall community tied together.
