For the past decade, Monolith Productions has worked on games set in theLord of the Ringsuniverse, releasingMiddle-earth: Shadow of MordorandMiddle-earth: Shadow of Warto strong reviews. It’s been four years since Monolith launchedMiddle-earth: Shadow of War, and so fans have been wondering what the studio’s been up to. While some may have assumed that Monolith was making a newMiddle-earthgame, it turns out the developer has been working on a game based on a DC Comics superhero.
As announced at The Game Awards 2021, Monolith’s next title is aWonder Womanvideo game. The reveal trailer shows the titular Wonder Woman herself, decked out in her traditional armor and wielding her iconic Lasso of Truth. TheWonder Womangame reveal trailer doesn’t reveal much beyond that, but additional details have been shared by Warner Bros. Interactive that paint a clearer picture of what the final product will be like.

According to Warner Bros., theWonder Womangame will be a single-player open world game where players see Diana of Themyscira fight to “unite her Amazon family and the humans from the modern world.” The game will reportedly useMiddle-earth’s Nemesis Systemso that Wonder Woman can “forge deep connections” with enemies and allies alike. Specific allies weren’t named, and it’s also unclear who the main villains will be in theWonder Womangame.
As for when more news on theWonder Womanvideo game will come, that’s up in the air. It seems like theWonder Womangame would be an obvious pick for E3 2022 if Warner Bros. Interactive decides to expand its presence at the big show. Alternatively, it’s easy to seeWonder Womanpopping up at Summer Game Fest as well, especially since Summer Game Fest is run byGame Awards host Geoff Keighley.
The other question is when exactly theWonder Womangamewill release. There was no release date or even a vague release window announced in the trailer, so it’s anyone’s guess as to when theWonder Womangame will come out. The most likely scenario is thatWonder Womanwon’t release until 2023 at the very earliest, so fans shouldn’t expect to get their hands on the game anytime soon.
Even so, there are multiple other DC video game projects in active development for fans to check out while they wait forWonder Woman. 2022 is expected to see the release of bothGotham KnightsandSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, so those looking for more DC Comics-based video games to play have a lot to look forward to in 2022 and beyond.
