Before its release, TT Games focusedLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s marketing around the sheer scale of the game. Boasting over 300 playable characters, over 1000 collectibles, a ton of iconic starships, and over 20 open-world hub planets to explore,LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagais still one of themost impressiveStar Warsgames ever made, and that’s without even taking into consideration the game’s campaign which consists of all nine mainlineStar Warsmovies.
ForStar Warsfans, both big and small,LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagafelt like a dream come true, and it was clear that TT Games had just as much adoration for the franchise as the rest of the fanbase, with hordes of easter eggs and references around literally every corner. There’s really no understating just how impressiveThe Skywalker Saga’s scale was, and still is, and it only makes sense that TT Games would want to use this groundwork for future large-scale LEGO titles, albeit without the use of the infamously troubling in-house NTT engine.
According to a recent report, a slew of licensed LEGO projects in the works at TT Games have been scrapped, with the only project surviving the cull being aLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga-inspiredLEGO Harry Pottergame. WithHogwarts Legacybeing such a monumental hit, even despite its controversies, it makes sense that TT Games would shift focus to creating an expansiveLEGO Harry Pottertitle, striking while the iron is hot. And it makes complete sense thatThe Skywalker Sagais laying the foundations.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Still Has So Much More Potential
But before TT Games moves on to aLEGO Harry Pottergame, it should seriously consider doing more withLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Before release, fan speculation surroundingThe Skywalker Sagagot pretty wild, with some fans claiming that it would also cover the entirety ofThe Clone Wars,Star Wars Rebels, and the two spinoff moviesRogue OneandSolo. While expecting all of this to be in the already content-richSkywalker Sagaat launch was pretty absurd, the idea of adding these spinoffs as post-launch DLC wasn’t.
Star Warsis a vast franchise, with near-countless canonical and expanded universe spinoffs hailing from movies, TV shows, books, comics, and games. And whileLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagaalready covered nine hefty entries, there are some big areas of the franchise that it doesn’t cover, all of which would have made for perfect bite-sized DLC expansions.
