After being teased for several years, one of 2019’s best games,Outer Wilds, is finally launching on Nintendo Switch later in 2023. Among several other accolades,Outer Wildswon Best Game at the BAFTA Game Awards. The indie darling from developer Mobius Digital and publisher Anapurna Interactive initially launched on PC and Xbox One as a timed console exclusive but later expanded to more platforms.
Fans were initially excited whenOuter Wildswas announced as a summer 2021 release, but subsequent delays have pushed the port further and further back. In the meantime,Outer Wildsreceived a DLC expansion titledEchoes of the Eyeand continued to garner rave reviews and positive word of mouth. After years of waiting, it finally seems as though Nintendo fans can finally get their hands on the game before the end of the year.

During Nintendo’s recent Indie World Showcase, it was announced thatOuter Wilds: Archaeologist Editionwill be released on July 19, 2025. TheArchaeologist Editionincludes theEchoes of the EyeDLC as well as theOuter Wildsbase game. Both the base game and the complete edition can be pre-ordered separately on the Nintendo Switch eShop starting today.
Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Editionanchored a showcase that also announced several timed console exclusives andShantae Advance: Risky Revolution, alost GBA game making a comeback on the Nintendo Switch. Over a dozen titles were highlighted in the just over 20-minute presentation, but the announced release date of one of the Switch’s most anticipated indie games certainly stands out.
Outer Wildsis widely one ofthe best space sim open-world gamesout there. The time loop narrative explores existentialism, asking players to learn about a race of extinct space explorers before a world-ending supernova. Brilliantly interwoven are logic puzzles that need to be solved to uncover various secrets. TheEchoes of the Eyeexpansion turns the game on its head a bit by offering more horror genre elements. The DLC wasn’t seen as quite the ground-breaking experience that the base game was, butEchoes of the Eyestill left its mark on fans as a worthwhile adventure all its own.
Just about any comment section concerning the release ofOuter Wildson the Nintendo Switch is full of fans championing this unique experience, and beneath mostOuter Wildstrailers is a slew of players sharing their experiences and attempting to convince new gamers to give the game a try.
