With its free-to-play model, and interesting mix ofLovecraftian horrorand survival gameplay,Once Humanis a fun game to play. Players can purchase a monthly battle pass for additional rewards, but it is entirely possible to play the whole game as a free player. Players can choose either a PvE Server, or, if they prefer PvP combat, a PvP server.

There are many bosses and mini-bosses in thissurvival shooter. However, some of the normal enemies can be quite dangerous as well. Especially enemies that are located within a polluted zone, which are known as deviants. Many of these deviant enemies have unique attacks and tactics that new players will need to learn as soon as possible.

Spikehead Deviant Is A Dangerous Enemy In Once Human

Can Spawn Behind The Player

The Spikehead Deviant can be quite dangerous, especially fornew playersthat are unaware of the spawn mechanic for this deviant. Sometimes, the Spikehead Deviant will already be spawned, and players can deal with it easily.

However, the Spikehead Deviant can also be generated by a hidden spawn pod, and can spawn anywhere within the radius of the spawn pod’s influence. This can be a problem if the player doesn’t see the spawn pod, and believes there are no deviants left nearby. In these cases, Spikehead Deviants can still spawn, possibly behind the player as well.

Spikehead Thrower Deviant Is A Dangerous Enemy In Once Human

Heavy Ranged Damage

The spawning mechanic for these is similar to the Spikehead Deviant. However, the thrower version is a little different. Once spawned, it can teleport a short distance. The problem here is that these deviants do ranged damage, and quite a bit of it.

For new players who are still using a basic melee weapon, the Spikehead Thrower Deviant can be a danger, especially if there is a small group of them spawned. The player will need to run to each in turn and kill it, hoping it won’t just teleport to a new location before it is killed.

Smiling Suitcase Deviant Is A Dangerous Enemy In Once Human

6Smiling Suitcase Deviant

High Damage

The Smiling Suitcase Deviant is what is termed an anima deviant. This means that it will drop its main weapon (its suitcase head) when killed. The player can then pick up this weapon and use it themselves for a short time.

Beginners are advisedto tackle this deviant first if one has spawned at a POI. Luckily, they are quite easy to spot, as they are larger than most other deviants and have a distinct animation when activated. The player can then pick up the dropped anima weapon and use it to kill any other deviants that are around.

Stage Light Deviant Is A Dangerous Enemy In Once Human

5Stage Light Deviant

Blinds The Player

The Stage Light Deviant can blind a player for a short time if it gets too close. It is recommended that the player kills this deviant at range to avoid the blinding effect. The danger this deviant presents is not because it does much damage itself, but because the player is blind to any other deviants around them.

Luckily, this deviant announces itself with an easily recognizable sound clip when it targets a player. In most cases, this is the best way to find out that a Stage Light Deviant is close by, and that the player needs to locate it and kill it right away.

Floater Deviant Is A Dangerous Enemy In Once Human

4Floater Deviant

Hard To Melee

The Floater Deviant sits safely high above the ground, which causes two problems. Firstly, it can be very hard to spot in areas with lots of trees or tall buildings on theopen-world map. Secondly, this deviant seldom drops close enough to the ground to be killed using a melee weapon. Instead, the player will need a ranged weapon of some sort.

The Floater Deviant does ranged damage, and will follow the player for quite some distance if it isn’t dealt with. Furthermore, they often span in pairs or small groups. For new players who may not have much ammo, this can be a dangerous threat.

Polluted Bee Deviant Is A Dangerous Enemy In Once Human

3Polluted Bee Deviant

Difficult To Spot

At the start ofOnce Human, running across a Polluted Bee Deviant can be a deadly threat. These ranged enemies do significant damage and are very hard to spot, especially if they are close to trees. Often, they spawn as a small group as well.

Sometimes, this deviant will drop to close to ground level and can be killed with a melee weapon quite easily, but the player will likely take some damage while closing on the Polluted Bee Deviant. Put simply, shoot these as soon as they are spotted.

Exploding Deviants Are Dangerous Enemies In Once Human

2Exploding Deviants

Just Run Away

Exploding Deviants act much like homing mines. Once they target a player, they will close into melee range and then explode. In high-level zones, an exploding deviant can take most of the player’s health bar.

The real problem with Exploding Deviants is that they often spawn inside buildings. If the building is dark, the player may not even see the enemy as it approaches and then explodes. Furthermore, killing an exploding enemy with a melee weapon is a bad idea, as they explode on death. Run away and shoot them from range.

Living Drill Deviant Is A Dangerous Enemy In Once Human

1Living Drill Deviant

Can Drill Underground

The Living Drill Deviant can be a major annoyance. Once they have taken a certain amount of damage, they tunnel into the ground and come up right next to the player, sometimes behind them. Therefore, ranged players will be forced into melee range.

A melee attack from a Living Drill Deviant does significant damage, and needs to be avoided if possible. Two or more of these deviants can kill an unwary player who has not identified the threat and take steps to stay at range when playing thisopen-world survival game.
