Summary
ADestiny 3leak that surfaced in February was seemingly legitimized by Bungie’s April 9 stream that previewedDestiny 2’sThe Final Shapeexpansion. TheDestiny 3leak, which revealed new details regarding the unconfirmed game’s development, mentionedDestiny 2’s Prismatic subclass that wasn’t announced until Bungie’s recent stream.
In addition to the new subclass,Destiny 2:The Final Shapeintroduces new enemies, weapons, a raid, the Pale Heart destination, and more on June 4. Both Bungie and theDestiny 2community hope thatThe Final Shapecan help the game rebound from dwindling player numbers. The expansion was originally meant to launch in February before undergoing significant delays and isDestiny 2’s first expansion sinceLightfallin February 2023. Despite troubling times recently, it seems thatDestinyfans now have some optimistic news to enjoy.

On February 27, Reddit user 32638272187 posted to the Destiny2Leaks subreddit and shared accurate details regardingDestiny 2’s newly announced subclass. The user went on to explain thatDestiny 3is in development under the codename Payback. One of the game’s biggest changes is apparently the lack of classes, instead allowing characters to spec into any ability. However, the Reddit user admitted that this information could be outdated since it was apparently given to them by former Bungie employees.
Leak Reveals Major Change In Destiny 3
The possibility ofBungie working onDestiny 3was further supported in the studio’s recent stream when Creative Director Luke Smith saidThe Final Shapeis “not the end ofDestiny 2, and it’s definitely not the end ofDestiny,” before teasing, “we’re going to tell you what’s coming next toDestiny 2and beyond” at some point in the future. A release date for the still unconfirmedDestiny 3is likely at least a couple of years out, seeing Bungie has to focus on another ambitious project as well.
Bungie’sMarathonwas reportedly delayed to 2025, suggesting that the studio still has plenty of work to do. While the game generated lots of excitement following its initial reveal,Marathon’s development has received criticismrecently due to changes in game direction, which were revealed by insiders and leaks. Apparently, Bungie has decided to replace customizable characters with a cast of pre-set heroes, a somewhat surprising decision for an extraction shooter.
In the meantime,Destiny 2just received a significant updatecalled Into the Light that added the Hall of Champions social space, classic weapons, and lots of rebalancing. The update also added a new PvE mode called Onslaught, in which players defend the Last City from waves of the Witness' goons.
