There’s a wholly dedicated, and talented, community out there that consists of fans and modders that are keen to expand the universes of an already pretty expansive world, and that includes such huge titles as Bethesda’sFalloutgames. TheambitiousNuevo Mexicomodhas been in development for some time by a group of individuals, which sees the post-apocalyptic story be given some new content, and recently, the people behind it released an official trailer.
Uploading the video to YouTube a few days ago, this add-on, which is being created by fans, uses theFallout: New Vegasengine and, as the name suggests, implements a Mexican-style aesthetic to the game, which is set in the Land of Enchantment. The trailer begins with aGoodfellas-style voice-over, which plays as images of an idyllic neighborhood are shown, right before the infamous atomic explosion that sets the stories of the universe into motion. The mod includes a new story, as well as the ability to join three factions, employ companions, and take part in new activities.

While it has the visuals of the more recentFalloutgames, it seems the team is interested in going back to the classics in the series. The YouTube description says thatNuevo Mexicowill put a lot more focus onthe role-playing elements that made the likes ofFallout 1such a cult hit, beloved by many PC gamers back in the late 1990s. Sadly, there is no release date yet, but no doubt many fans watching the trailer will be excited about playing the mod, especially those who favor the stronger RPG aspects of the original games, before Bethesda took over the franchise.
Falloutis famous for its vaults, vault dwellers, bottle cap monetary system, warring factions, and deep lore, and it sounds like this new fan-made project will aim to continue on that front, while also adding its own ideas into the mix. It’s also a series that is well-known for its modding community, giving players new things to do and see, while breathing new life into the vanilla games, perhaps even improving them.
New Vegasin particular has a slew of mods, many of which make it feel like a completely different game. WhileFallout Shelteris technically the best game in the series, going off sales alone, 2010’sNew Vegasis considered one of the best by the fan base, especially given that it was created by some of the people responsible for the first two games. In that respect, it’s not surprising that this team of modders want to keep that classic RPG spirit alive with this project.
Fallout: New Vegasis available on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
