Nintendo announced the Indie World Sale at the end of today’sIndie World Showcaseand revealed that it would begin later today. It looks like the sale has already begun at the time of writing, and it will run until April 25th, 2021. The Indie World Sale featuressome of 2020’s best indie gamesas well as games revealed in today’s showcase, like 2012’s classic indie game,Fez.

Since 2019, Nintendo has hosted these small Indie World Showcase events to highlight new indie games coming to the console, and it is good for the game industry to see indie games being supported. By supporting indie games like this, Nintendo attracts more indie developers and builds a community of fans who are more open to trying indie games.

While 2020 saw a huge uptake in interest in video games due to more people spending time at home, many AAA projects also were affected by the pandemic. While most major games still made their release dates, projects that were in development will most likely see delays into 2022 and beyond. However, indie developers tend to consist of much smaller teams and were better able to adapt to the pandemic’s effects. Even indie developers that were affected still hold an advantage over larger teams because indie games typically have a shorter production timeline.
