Summary

The Witchermultiplayer spin-off will feature a character class system, some recently emerged evidence suggests. The newly surfaced information sheds a bit more light on the mysteriousThe Witchergame that’s still believed to be years away from hitting the market.

CD Projekt originally confirmed the upcoming spin-off’s existence in October 2022. Internally code-named Project Sirius, the game’s scope has already been redrawn once to focus on its multiplayer aspects and cut costs. Following that move,The Witchermultiplayer spin-off remained in the worksat The Molasses Flood, a Boston-based developer that CD Projekt acquired in late 2021 for an undisclosed sum.

Project Sirius Will Seemingly Have Character Classes

And while the studio hasn’t revealed much about the game ever since, one new detail about Project Sirius now appears to have leaked via a job ad. Firstspottedby Tech4Gamers, the listing advertises the role of a senior or principal combat designer, whose responsibilities include implementing “each character type’s combat behavior.” That tidbit appears to imply thatThe Witchermultiplayer game’s feature listwill include a character class system.

The Witcher Multiplayer Game Expected To Feature Both PvE and PvP

Another takeaway from the listing is that the upcoming title will have bosses and—by extension—PvE elements. That’s implied by the ad mentioning balancing “enemies and bosses” as another one of the advertised role’s responsibilities. This implication tracks with some previously spotted job openings from The Molasses Flood, which suggested thatThe Witchermultiplayer game will offer both PvP and co-op experiences.

The Boston studio’s activity in the job market has previously revealed some other details about Project Sirius. Chief among these emerged in November 2023, when another job listingindicated thatThe Witchermultiplayer spin-off will be open-world. While the game’s multiplayer nature might imply that The Molasses Flood is working on a live-service project, Project Sirius’s business model remains unconfirmed.

Whatever the case may be, the game itself isn’t likely to see the light of day for many more years. According to CD Projekt’s latest quarterly report, only 39 of its staffers have been working on Project Sirius as of May 10, 2025. The Molasses Flood also doesn’t look like it’s looking to expand substantially in the immediate future, as it’s currently advertising only five positions, including the aforementioned opening for a senior combat designer. As things stand right now, the next CD Projekt game to hit the market will almost certainly be Project Polaris, which is the codename of the fourth mainline entry inThe Witcherfranchise that’s presently in the works at CDPR. The company is currently also working on theCyberpunk 2077sequel code-named Orion, as well as a remake of the firstThe Witchergame and a new IP code-named Hadar.
