TheMortal Kombattrailerhad already shown plenty of promise by featuring more characters thanMortal Kombat 2had playable fighters, but now Nitara is flying over straight from sixth-gen consoles to Outworld. The news came via a Twitter post fromMortal Kombatscreenwriter Greg Russo, who shared a photo of a mysterious onlooking Nitara in what is definitely the movie’s most left-field signing so far.
Though the shot posted by Russo doesn’t fully reveal Nitara’s attire for the tournament, the vampiress is pretty hard to mistake for anyone due to her being the only winged fighter in the games, besides the unsightly D’Vorah. Nitara made her debut inDeadly Alliance, staying on board for two more titles untilArmageddon, though she has been referenced in the most recent game.
InMortal Kombat 11, pre-battle exchanges between Erron Black and Skarlet point to Nitara having been a former romantic interest for the gunslinger, thus proving that everyone indeed has a type and Erron sure seems to have a thing for women with a weird blood fetish. Nitara will be played by Australian actress Elissa Caldwell, whose casting choice had actually been leaked months ago, though the choice of Nitara always sparked suspicion among fans who are not used to seeing her get this kind of recognition.
Nitara joins Sonya Blade and Mileena as the other two female fighters in the movie, which surprisingly chose to leave the deadly princess Kitana out of the picture. One thing for sure is that ifMortal Kombatis already pushing that R rating, adding the literally bloodthirsty Nitara only helps propel that notion.
Mortal Kombatwill be released in theaters and on HBO Max on July 18, 2025.
