Sony San Diego Studio has revealed a special Derek Jeter edition ofMLB The Show 23named The Captain Edition.MLB The Show 23is quickly approaching its March 28 release date, and pre-orders are about to be opened. With pre-orders forMLB The Show 23tentatively scheduled for February 6, Sony San Diego Studio wants players to be informed regarding what editions can be purchased – standard, Digital Deluxe, or The Captain Edition.
Derek Jeter is a modern legend in baseball. He’s a 14-time American League All-Star, 5-time AL Gold Glove winner, 2-time Hank Aaron Award winner for being the top hitter in the league, and also a recipient of the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award for character and integrity both on and off the field. He also happens to be a 5-times World Series Champion, all withthe New York Yankees. While he retired after the 2014 season, Jeter is still regarded as one of the best baseball players in the world.

That’s why Derek Jeter is the cover star forMLB The Show 23’s special editions this year,paired up with Jazz Chisholm Jr., who will be adorning the game’s standard edition. Jeter is technically the cover star of two different versions of the game. He’s on the box art for The Captain Edition, as well as the Digital Deluxe version ofMLB The Show 23. Few consider box art for a digital edition of a game to be particularly interesting, though.
Both The Captain Edition and the Digital Deluxe version ofMLB The Show 23are packed with digital content. That includes 4-day Early Access, a Captain’s Choice Pack, a Choice Pack, and a Special Uniform Choice Pack. Both also include Gold Choice Packs, Show Packs, and other DLC in different quantities. The Digital Deluxe Edition, for example, features 30,000MLB The ShowStubsnext to The Captain Edition’s 10,000 Stubs. Both editions retail for $99.99, but The Captain Edition also includes some physical merchandise.
The physical content featured in The Captain Edition ofMLB The Show 23includes a Steelbook cover for the game, as well as a New Era baseball hat featuring theMLB The Showlogo. It all comes in a larger cardboard box featuring special Derek Jeter art. ForMLB The Showfans who want limited edition merchandise, The Captain Edition is the right choice. For those who want more digital content, the Digital Deluxe Edition is the right pick.
As noted, pre-orders forMLB The Show 23are scheduled for February 6.MLB The Showdeveloper Sony San Diego Studiojust announced the editions ahead of time so that fans could make a decision early. The Captain Edition is notably only available for PlayStation and Xbox, not Nintendo Switch. They both include Dual Entitlement, however, allowing the game to be played on either current-gen or last-gen consoles.
