Since the original release ofMinecraftin 2011, fans have been discovering hidden details in strange places, with the latest one involving a desert temple found in a particularly unusual spot. Though desert temples are usually known to spawn inMinecraftsand biomes in which they feel very natural, they can end up in areas where they make much less sense.

Biomes have always been an important aspect ofMinecraft, adding variety to both the expansive overworld and the plethora of mine shafts and caves that litter the underground of each seed.Minecraftbiomesencourage exploration as players can gather different resources in a birch forest than in a jungle or snowy tundra, with these different visuals overlapping where they meet. While it isn’t abnormal for overlapping sand and snow or jungle and swamp, oneMinecraftfan has located a desert temple in a place that even expert speedrunners may not expect.

Reddit user Zerelz has garnered 1,500 upvotes on a post highlighting aMinecraftdesert templein a lush cave which, given how rarely this has been shared, is likely an exceptional occurrence. In the middle of a plethora of veins with glow berries, copper, grass, and stone, the screenshot shows the front entrance to a desert temple emphasized by the creeper symbol between two blocks of orange terracotta. Although the right tower of the entrance can be identified behind some vines in Zerelz’s image, the left tower seems to be completely obscured by stone, leaving it partially buried in the lush cave which is at least a dozen blocks below the world’s surface.

Lush caves were added with aMinecraftupdate in 2021and the biome is often located underneath azalea trees and typically includes resources like the aforementioned berries, moss, rooted dirt, dripleaf, and more. Though desert temples aren’t usually part of these biomes, the one in Zerelz’s post likely has a similar layout to the ones that can be found in the sand regions and loot from four chests such as gunpowder, saddles, horse armor, gold apples and ingots, and even the possibility of an enchanted book. TheMinecraftdesert temple is almost entirely composed of sand, sandstone, TNT, and orange terracotta, making it slightly less useful to Zerelz if they’re looking for typical lush cave crafting ingredients.

Given that not every desert biome is guaranteed to have a temple like the one found by Zerelz and thatMinecraftlush cavesdon’t usually have them, this screenshot seems to be evidence that the two together are possible despite the rarity. Although it’s an uncommon location for the biome, lush caves can be located underneath deserts rather than azalea trees which may mean that Zerelz’s screenshot is from an area that mixes the two environments together.
