The nineties were a time full of iconic moments and people, but few have had the lasting impact on pop culture that Mike Myers and his movies have had. Now, thirteen years after his last live-action starring role, Myers is finally working on a major comeback series forNetflix.
The series is titledThe Pentaverateand Myers is credited as the creator, star, and producer. In true Myers style, he will also be playing not one, but seven different characters. Myers has made his entire career out of being able to play various wild, memorable characters in films such astheAustin Powerstrilogy,so this is a return to form for the actor.The Pentaveratewill be a limited series and run for six half-hour episodes.

Most of the series' details are still being kept under wraps, but the official logline for the show sheds some light on what to expect. The series follows the mishaps of a Canadian journalist as he attempts to uncover the truth about a secret society of men who have been working to shape world events since the Black Plague of 1347. While it’s not much to go on, it’s also just enough to imagine the kind ofAustin Powers-Esque hijinks Myers can get up to in this kind of story.
Netflix is known for its quality comedy contentand for letting creators have creative freedom over their projects, so Myers will certainly be able to flesh out his ideas. The show will also star some familiar faces, Ken Jeong (Community), Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele), and Debi Mazar (Entourage), as well as actors Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous), Richard McCabe (Eye In The Sky), and Lydia West (It’s A Sin). Tim Kirby is directing the series and has previously directed episodes ofBrockmire,Fleabag, andVeep.
In his heyday, Myers was at the forefront of cult classic hits likeWayne’s WorldandAustin Powers,plus he wasaSaturday Night Livefavoritefor years. While his most famous characters, like Dr. Evil, will always have a place in pop culture history, his career noticeably took a turn after his last major film,The Love Guru. The film was met by almost synonymous disappointment from critics and fans.
Since then Myers has popped up for small roles in movies likeInglorious BasterdsandBohemian Rhapsodybut has mostly stuck to voice actingfor the ever-popularShrekfranchise. While it’s still too early to tell what fans can expect fromThe Pentaverate,the fact that Myers is inspired to return in this big a fashion could mean good things are coming.
The Pentaverateis currently filming and has not released an official release date.
