How to Counter Galactus in Marvel Snap

The ultimate goal forMarvel SnapGalactus decksis to reduce the number of available locations from three down to one, disrupting an opponent’s strategy around winning two locations and forcing them to play for control of a single one. What makes Galactus so controversialis the way his ability flips the rules of the game on their head. While this 6-Cost/2-Power card may seem scary, much like his comic counterpart, there are usually several heralds that warn of his arrival for players to watch out for if they hope to counter him.

Since Galactus destroys locations and any cards along with them, most Galactus player will start out by playing cards like Nova or Wolverine who benefit from being destroyed. Another sign that Galactus may be coming is if an opponent plays Electro orWaveon turn 3 to try and reduce the cost of Galactus, helping get him on the field sooner. The final sign to watch for is if the opponent has an empty location of their side of the field, since Galactus' ability only activates if they have no other cards at that location.

Even though the signs that Galactus is in play can be obvious, knowing he’s coming is only half the battle. Strategies for stopping Galactus involve preventing his On Reveal ability from activating, so one simple solution is to play Cosmo at the location where he will likely be played. Another popularcounter forMarvel Snap’s Galactusinvolves giving the opponent some cards they don’t want at the location where they’re planning to play him. Debrii is a good choice for this strategy, as is Viper - who can give an opponent one of the player’s cards, and a sneaky Titania who changes sides of the field whenever a card is played.

Galactus is also most often paired with Knull on turn 6, since his ability gives him the combined Power of all cards destroyed during the match. Even if an opponent is able to play Galactus, sometimes the player can still get the victory if they can stop Knull with a well-timedShang-Chior Valkyrie on the following turn. Baiting out this combo can lull an opponent into thinking they’ve won, only for the tables to be turned at the last second.
