I think all of us did, to be honest, because you start trying to write the story yourself. And [Maisie Williams] and I would fantasize about a Cersei and Arya showdown; that she would come back as Jaime. That was our dream. But they made different choices.

Headey expressed her desire for a more satisfying demise for Cersei in a 2019 interview withThe Guardian, expressing disappointment in the character’s ultimate fate onGame of Thrones. She lamented that it didn’t align with the vivid vision she had in mind for Cersei’s conclusion. Headey had wished for a more dramatic and fitting farewell for her character, even proposing the idea of Cersei meeting her fate amid a fierce battle. However, when discussing the behind-the-scenes effort, Headey expressed her understanding of the decisions made by the show’s creators under the intense pressure to navigate the intricate web of storylines. “Exactly, " she said. “I think, in hindsight, everybody understands that. You’re in it, and you’ve been so invested, there’s a moment of, ‘Why?’ But I absolutely get it.”

After the conclusion ofGame of Thrones, HBO introduced the prequel seriesHouse of the Dragon, a show that Headey admits she has yet to experience. When probed about whether she had seen the spin-off series or if she considered it too unconventional to watch, she responded, “Too weird. Yeah.” It appears that Headey has moved on from the franchise, as she expressed that she doesn’t long for the show itself. However, she deeply misses the camaraderie she shared with theGame of Thronescast and crew she had grown close to throughout the years.
