For the last two decades, TT Games has had almost complete control over the LEGO video game market, releasing countless licensed titles fromLEGO Star WarstoLEGO BatmantoLEGO Marvel, and just about everything in between. The most recent release from TT Games was 2022’sLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which paved the way fora new age of large-scale, open-world LEGO titles, and it seems like the studio is already hard at work on its next game: another large-scale title based on theHarry Potterfranchise.

Thanks to a recent report from Nintendo Life, it’s been tentatively confirmed that a handful of projects over at TT Games have just been canceled, with onlyaLEGO Harry Pottergame in a similar vein toThe Skywalker Sagasurviving the cull. While some of these projects had some real potential, it’s easy to understand that TT Games' resources may have been stretched too thin, and focusing just on a newLEGO Harry Pottergame seems like the smart move right now.

TT Games is Smart to Focus on Harry Potter Right Now

The recent report from Nintendo Life suggests that four big-profile projects have just been canceled at TT Games. These cancelations include a LEGOGuardians of the Galaxygame that was reportedly in development for 18 months, a mobile port ofLEGO Worlds, a non-LEGO shooter set to feature a plethora of Warner Bros. characters, andaDiablo-like Disney gameusing characters from across the company’s history. According to the report, a newLEGO Batmangame has also been put on hold, as has aMandaloriannarrative DLC forLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

While there are surely a good few reasons behind these cancelations, Nintendo Life suggests that the biggest reason behind these decisions was to give more resources to the development ofa newLEGO Harry Pottertitle. Though Nintendo Life’s report doesn’t have too many details on this game, it does mention that it’s being designed on a similar scale toThe Skywalker Saga, likely meaning multiple open-world hubs, missions that span the entire franchise, and hundreds of playable characters.

Putting all the studio’s resources into a newLEGO Harry Pottergame is probably a very smart decision to make right now. Despite all the controversies surrounding it, the recentHogwarts Legacyhas performed incredibly well sales-wise, selling over 12 million copies in just its first two weeks and having continued to sell ridiculously well since. It’s clear that theHarry PotterIP is still incredibly lucrative, and it only makes sense that Warner Bros. would want to cash in on this success as much as possible, which could potentially mean putting pressure on TT Games to deliver aLEGO Harry Pottergame as soon as possible.

But while all of these cancelations could potentially stem from a desire to cash in on the latest trends, that isn’t really TT Games' MO, and regardless of any publisher pressures, the studio is likely to put its full heart and soul into creating the bestLEGO Harry Pottergame it possibly can. BeforeLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s release, TT Games released a handful of behind-the-scenes videos, and each one showed the immense passion the team had for theStar WarsIP. That’s a large part of whyThe Skywalker Sagafelt so fun to play, as it was clear that it was a game for the fans, built by fans. So, if TT Games is currently hard at work on a newLEGO Harry Potter, then fans can be sure that the team behind it is just as passionate.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagais available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
