Remakes and remasters can be a great thing for nostalgic gamers who want to relive their favorite titles but with a more modern feel. Games like theStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republicremakeare highly anticipated due to this. However, while a remake done right can build upon the original experience of a game and give both old and new fans an enjoyable time, there are those remasters that come across more as a quick attempt to gain money from a popular franchise. Recently,The Last of Us Part 1PS5 remake has been under fire for appearing like a cash grab to some fans.

WhenThe Last of UsPS5 remake was shown off to fans, there was a mix of excitement with a bit of disappointment. Some were happy to see that the game was getting a visual overhaul along with other updates. However, others found thegraphics ofThe Last of Usto be better than its remake, comparing images from both games online to see which was better. This has led to some believing that the remake is nothing more than a cash grab.

However, one Naughty Dog developer has taken offense to these claims. Robert Morrison, an animator at Naughty Dog who worked onThe Last of UsPS5 remake along other titles likeResident Evil 7, Injustice 2,and the 2018God of Warreboot, has stated on Twitter that the remaster is the “most meticulously built and crafted project” he has ever been a part of. Morrison also claims that the “highest level of care and attention to detail” has been put into Naughty Dog’sThe Last of UsPS5 remake.

The Last of Usfans in the comments of Morrison’s post were mostly supportive of the animator, with some saying they’ll pick up the game when it releases in September. There were some that questioned the price of the game, which Morrison said was out of his control. Others in the comments still held onto the belief thatThe Last of UsPS5 remake could have reimagined the original gameor have given it more major changes.

There were those that claimedThe Last of Usdidn’t even need a remake, as the graphics of the original still hold up. While some agreed with this sentiment, others pointed out that while the pre-rendered cutscenes had withstood the test of time, the other visual elements ofThe Last of Ushad not held up. It is clear to see the improvements in at least some ofThe Last of UsPS5 remake’s visuals.Tess looks completely overhauled inThe Last of Usremake, for example.
