The coronavirus pandemic has had a massive impact on the entertainment industry, and video games have been no exception. This includes Sony’s major upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive gameThe Last of Us 2, which was originally scheduled to launch on May 29 after a number of delays. NowThe Last of Us 2has been delayed yet again due to the coronavirus pandemic, with Sony refraining from revealing a new release date.
The Last of Us 2was originally set to launch this past February, but was delayed to its May 29 release date. The latest delay isn’t due to development issues or the team needing more time to work on the game, however. As indicated by PlayStation, the decision is due to logistics, with the economic impact of the coronavirus convincing the company to push back the game’s release date.

With Sony not announcing a new release date forThe Last of Us 2, it’s unclear if the game will still launch in 2020. However, unless the PS5 release date is pushed back, it’s hard to seeThe Last of Us 2not coming out this year. PerhapsThe Last of Us 2will release at some point later in the summer when the coronavirus pandemic is expected to subside at least partially, or maybe the game will launch in the fall, right before the PS5 itself. The possibility ofThe Last of Us 2being a PS5 launch titleand released on both PS4 and PS5 can’t be ruled out either, but nothing to that effect has actually been announced.
In the meantime,The Last of Us 2isn’t the only game that Sony has delayed. In the same announcement, Sony has confirmed that thePlayStation VR exclusiveIron Man VRhas also been delayed indefinitely. LikeThe Last of Us 2,Iron Man VRwas set to launch this coming May, and it too has no new release date.
Something that remains unclear is ifGhost of Tsushimawill also be delayed. At the time of this writing,Ghost of Tsushimais scheduled to launch on June 26, but if the coronavirus pandemic is still a major issue by then, it seems likely it will be pushed back as well. BeforeGhost of Tsushimafans get too worried, though, they should wait and see how things continue to pan out in the coming weeks and months.
The Last of Us 2is in development for PS4.
