What Is Kung Fu Hustle About?

Kung Fu Hustleis a simple kung fu movie that isset in 1940’s China. Even more specifically, much of the film takes place in a small and rundown complex known as Pigsty Alley, a location that many will hope will at least make a cameo inKung Fu Hustle2. One day, some petty criminals named Sing and Bone make their presence known in order to abuse the people of Pigsty Alley, but they are soon overshadowed by an even bigger threat, the Axe Gang. This group of criminals is as vile as they come, never shying away from inflicting great violence to get exactly what they want, and that violence is turned toward the innocent people of Pigsty Alley.

Despite a group of kung fu masters being around to deal withthe Axe Gang, the residents of the slums are constantly in danger as the situation grows more and more dangerous with each fight. While it may seem like the various kung fu masters would be the focus of the film, the true protagonist is the person who is met as the initial antagonist, Sing. As the kung fu masters contend with the Axe Gang, Sing goes on a journey to go from petty criminal to Axe Gang member and finally into a kung fu master in his own right.

Is Kung Fu Hustle 2 In Development?

While it may seem like there’d be no chance for aKung Fu Hustle 2nearly two decades after the release of the original, Stephen Chow has stated that a sequel is currently in the works. There isn’t much known about what the sequel may be like, but there are a few key details that will makeKung Fu Hustle 2strikingly different from the original. For starters,Kung Fu Hustle 2is most likely going to be set in the modern day instead of a similar time period to the original. That falls in line with other comments onKung Fu Hustle 2that make it clear that the sequel will be a continuation in name more so than a direct continuation of the story.

One thing that we do know is that while Sing may be backin some sort of cameo, he will not be the main character of the film. Instead, it’s been suggested that the lead will be a young woman with an entirely new cast of characters around her. This all makes sense with the supposed jump in time that will be coming, but this also means that there is potential for a familiar story to be told with a modern state of mind. Additionally, with Chow’s statements that he’d like the film to take place in a new location, it’s possible that a story featuring a bustling city will be at the forefront, allowing for even more incredible and over-the-top kung fu action to take place.
