With two new consoles on the market and promises to fulfill, the games industry is getting ready for 2021 to be a big year. While the release calendar is still somewhat empty because of the coronavirus pandemic fueling delays, there are a decent number ofhighly anticipated games dropping in 2021. However, there’s still one major question mark as far as next year’s games are concerned, asDying Light 2has pulled something of a disappearing act.
Initially expected to release in 2019,Dying Light 2was delayed indefinitelyat the start of 2020. The follow up to the 2015 game,Dying Light 2looks like an overhaul of everything fans got in the original, with a heavier emphasis on player choice being one of the highlights. However, with few updates about the game’s development for a year, it’s unclear what’s going on withDying Light 2,even though it could be one of the defining games of 2021.

Indefinite delays are rarely a good thing, as it typically indicates some type of major issue during development. That being said, more time in the oven is great for gamers, as it means that the final product will be that much more stable on launch day.Dying Light 2comes at an odd time, too, as the games industry is currently transitioning from the PS4 and Xbox One to thePS5 and Xbox Series X, which could be causing at least some of the trouble.

Dying Light 2 Could Rule 2021
Next year is going to be an interesting one for games. While there are some standout titles, large swathes of the year are unaccounted for, which puts the industry in an interesting position. Most of what gamers have are vague release windows rather than solid dates, and with the state of the world, those windows seem more likely to change than they have in recent memory. While that’s not great for most titles, it could mean good things forDying Light 2,if it launches next year.
As far as gameplay similarity goes,Dying Light 2’sonly real competition next year will beFar Cry 6.And whileFar Cry 6seems to be shaping up nicely so far, spaced out correctly,Dying Light 2may still be able to captivate audiences, especially if it plays its cards right. That means following in the shoes of the first game, introducing new events, content, and updates even years after the game launches, though starting in 2021.
IfDying Light 2manages to do that, it could very well be one of the biggest games that 2021 has to offer, which would be impressive considering it’s something of an underdog at this point. TheDying Lightformula has already been proven to work, so if Techland continues to expand on the already solid foundation, 2021 could be the year ofDying Light.
