It’s no secret that players can do whatever they want inBaldur’s Gate 3. This also applies to the obstacles that will stand in your way. For example,when chasing Auntie Ethel, you will need to make your way through the Overgrown Tunnel. However, to achieve this, players have to get past the Gnarled Door inBaldur’s Gate 3in order to continue their pursuit.
This door is located in the western part of the tunnel, and is the main obstacle between you and the Hag. As always, you can solve this problem in several ways, if the dice are on your side.
How to Get Through The Gnarled Door
At first glance, it may seem that the Gnarled Door is an impossible obstacle inBaldur’s Gate 3. No matter what attacks or spells you use, it will not open. But in fact, this is nothing more than an illusion, in the literal sense of the word. You can easily get past the Gnarled Door inBaldur’s Gate 3if you succeed in the Arcana check.
To do this, talk to the Gnarled Door and ask it a couple of questions. During this dialogue, your character will roll an Arcana saving throw. If you are lucky and the dice love you, you will notice that the Door is an illusion, and your party will pass through it without any problems. However, if you fail, you will have to use the second method.
It’s also worth noting thatyou can save scum here. Just save your game before interacting with the Gnarled Door to roll the Arcana check over and over again.
How to Get Past the Gnarled Door Using the Whispering Mask
An alternate way to get past the Gnarled Door inBaldur’s Gate 3isWhispering Masks. You can find several of these Masks on the table next to the Door. When at least one of them is equipped on a member of your party, you will be able to pass through the Gnarled Door without any difficulties. However, this method has high risks.
Thecharacter wearing the Whispering Maskwill have to do Wisdom saving throws every turn as soon as they walk through the door. If you fail one of these rolls, Auntie Ethel will take control of the character and attack you. Therefore, we recommend that you equip Whispering Mask on the character in the party with the highest Wisdom stat,such as Shadowheart.
Of course, you can remove the Mask once you go through the Gnarled Door. But in this case, you will face some strong opponents: the Mask of Regret, the Mask of Vengeance, the Mask of Terror, and the Mask of Servitude. So, if you want to avoid the battle, run through the Overgrown Tunnel as quickly as possible without removing the Whispering Mask.
