Following the announcement earlier today thatThe Last of Us 2will be delayed to spring 2020, it seems as though another game could be majorly affected by the postponed release of Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated sequel. Despite not yet having a firm release date,Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch’s highly-anticipated samurai action game, will seemingly also receive a delay.
According to a tweet from Kotaku journalist Jason Schreier,Ghost of Tsushimawas originally slated to launch in the first half of 2020, presumably to stay out of range of the launch of the PlayStation 5 around the holiday season. However, with the supposed delay ofThe Last of Us 2, the game will apparently also be pushed back to the later months of the year, creating distance between Sony’s two blockbuster exclusives.

Schreier does go on to state that the game won’t debut with the PlayStation 5, sticking to Sony’s earlier claims thatGhost of Tsushimawould be a PlayStation 4 title. Regardless, this possible delay will no doubt come as a disappointment for fans looking forward to getting their hands on Sucker Punch’s newest title, however, spacing the two exclusives out through the year will no doubt be a better strategy in the long run. It will give players the opportunity to enjoy both major console exclusives while also padding out the significant stretch of time between now andthe launch of the PlayStation 5 at the tail-end of 2020.
Ghost of Tsushimawas first introduced to players back at Paris Games Week in 2017. Since then, we’ve seen very little of the game outside of a lengthy gameplay trailer at E3 2018, in which Sucker Punch showed off some stealth gameplay, a string of beautiful visuals, and some hard-hitting sword combat. It will be the company’s first game since the release ofInfamous: Second Sonback in 2014, as well as its first crack at a historical setting, with the game taking place during the first mongrel invasion of Japan.
WithGhost of Tsushimasupposedly still a PlayStation 4 title, it remains to be seen just how close the game will launch to the release of the PlayStation 5. It could very well be the final blockbuster exclusive to hit Sony’s landmark console, closing out an undeniably impressive first-party line-up consisting ofGod of War, The Last Of Us 2, Marvel’s Spider-Manand the upcomingDeath Stranding.
