Diablo 4came out ten days ago in early access, and so far it has proven that a dedicated marketing campaign dotted with open betas can be a quite powerful tool to increase the hype surrounding a game - something that Blizzard’s latest ARPG deserves even in the face of some flaws. With plenty ofendgame systems inDiablo 4to keep players engaged long-term and provide them with meaningful pursuits, there are many possibilities for Blizzard to take the game in even bolder directions in the future. With the current experience maxing out at World Tier 4, the news that World Tier 5 files were found in the game alongside Gems going from tier 6 to 9 is taking the community by the storm.
While Gems getting more tiers may be less of an unexpected piece of news, the fact that Blizzard either scrapped an additional World Tier forDiablo 4or is working on it for a future release is much more impactful. Gems can be incredibly powerful build upgrades, with some of them even making some combinations work, such as the Amethyst giving extra damage over time, which is essential for builds like the Firewall Sorcerer. On the other hand, World Tiers improve the rewards players can get at all times - but they also up the ante on difficulty.

Diablo 4’s Datamined World Tier 5 and Gem Tiers Could Follow a Specific Pattern
Diablo 4is by no means an overly easy game, and while avoiding death might seem like cakewalk in World Tier 1 and 2, things can change drastically in World Tier 3 and 4. For example,Diablo 4’s Nightmare Dungeonshave limited revives and additional modifiers to make them harder, which can yield quite a challenge for many players, but still be worth their time due to incredible rewards one can reap.
Theultra-rare Uniques inDiablo 4are confirmed to drop on higher World Tiers, and given that Unique Items themselves are considerably more common, it makes sense to have Harlequin Crest and The Grandfather drop in Tier 4. As it stands, World Tier 3 is recommended for players between level 50 and 70 and can be unlocked after finishing the campaign and beating a Capstone Dungeon, and unlocking it has a lot of implications. Players can get Unique and Sacred Unique items, Nightmare Sigils, monsters with resistance auras show up, and Helltides appear in Sanctuary, all while players get more experience and gold at the cost of more powerful enemies.
World Tier 4 is for level 70 and beyond players, and it features Ancestral Unique items as well as rarer Uniques, with players getting a total of 200% more experience and still 15% more gold. As such,Diablo 4’s World Tier 5would probably provide players with another rarity of Unique items, possibly a wider selection of rare Uniques, and even more experience - which would probably cap at 300% considering the gap between World Tier 3 and 4. It would also make enemies even more terrifying to deal with, and it could add new types of endgame systems.
Similarly, Gems from tier 6 to 9 could likely give incrementally more powerful benefits that scale like they do now from tier 1 to 5, with an example being the Amethyst’s damage over time effect adding 1% bonus damage per tier, as it already does. This doesn’t necessarily mean that every Gem should or will follow this pattern, and there could be variations, especially with the highest tiers currently datamined.Diablo 4’s first seasonis around the corner already, probably coming in a little over a month, and with Blizzard making this game a live-service one, it’s likely that additional features will come over time - and World Tiers and Gems make a lot of sense to add.
Diablo 4is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
