Yunli, is the first limited character as a Physical Destruction unit inHonkai: Star Rail- following from units existing since the launch ofthe game being Claraand Physical Trailblazer. While it can be said that Yunli is relatively similar to Clara in many aspects of her kit (follow up attack, self-healing, aggro etc.), she offers a unique blend of powerful Ultimate attacks and frequent follow-up attacks. This versatility makes her a valuable asset in a variety of team compositions, depending on whether the focus is on maximizing her Ultimate damage or capitalizing on her follow-up attack potential.
That being the case, this guide will focus on two different viable cases for her - one focusing ongenerating as much as energyfor making Yunli a hyper carry with her best supports, and the other focusing on a duo DPS follow-up oriented team composition to leverage her build as much as possible, while also utilizing different team members as much as possible.

Best Yunli Hypercarry Teams
In an Ultimate-focused setup, the goal is to maximize Yunli’s own damage output through her Ultimate, which is her strongest source of damage. This team composition typically includes characters who can provide energy regeneration, buffs, or debuffs on enemies to ensure Yunli is well set to deal massive DMG as often as possible.
Premium Team: Yunli + Tingyun + Sparkle + Huohuo
The best team compositions for Yunli should ideally include characters that provide valuable buffs and generate energy. In this regard, Tingyun andHuohuo are excellent choices. Both characters can consistently generate energy for Yunli without the need to worry about overcapping, as Yunli can use her Ultimate before reaching 240 energy. Additionally, Tingyun and Huohuo offer ATK buffs, enhancing Yunli’s maximum DPS output and providing more flexibility in her build options, such as choosing a Physical DMG Planar Sphere over an ATK one, or prioritizing ATK over an Energy Regeneration Rate (ERR) rope.
For the final team slot, players have more flexibility.Sparkle is a particularly strong choice, offering a significant Crit DMG buff, assisting with Skill point regeneration, and advancing Yunli’s Ultimate. This can be especially useful for triggering Tingyun’s and Huohuo’s Ultimates more frequently. However, if Sparkle is not available, other support options like Bronya, who can further boost damage and provide utility such as advance forward and Crit DMG, or debuffer units that can lower enemy’s DEF, are also effective choices.

Budget (F2P) Team: Yunli + Tingyun + Pela + Lynx
While the previous team composition is optimal for enabling Yunli as a hypercarry, it includes characters like Sparkle and Huohuo, which might be resource-intensive, especially for free-to-play players. Fortunately, more accessible alternatives exist. Pela can replace Sparkle as a solid debuff unit, being SP positive and contributing significantly to the team’s overall damage output by reducing enemy defenses. Lynx can stand in for Huohuo as a healer, offering unique utility despite not generating energy for the team.
Lynx can apply Survival Response to characters, a particularly beneficial effect for Destruction and Preservation units as it increases aggro generation for these paths. This, in turn, helps ensure Yunli’s follow-up DPS is triggered as often as possible, maintaining her effectiveness even in less resource-intensive team setups.

Best Yunli Duo-DPS Follow-Up Oriented Teams
Alternatively, a follow-up attack-focused team aims to exploit Yunli’s ability to execute follow-up attacks as frequently as possible while boosting the DPS output of the entire team. This approach is most effective when Yunli is paired with other characters who also have DPS and follow-up attack capabilities, particularly if players are considering equipping the Duran, Dynasty of Running Wolves on her or another team member. While the best options for such compositions often include premium characters, free-to-play (F2P) players can still build effective teams using more accessible units.
This follow-up attack strategy is particularly potent in Pure Fiction but can also be adapted for Memory of Chaos (MoC) with some character adjustments. Below are two different team compositions tailored for these endgame contents:

Pure Fiction Team: Yunli + Jade + Robin + Aventurine
In Pure Fiction, which typically features many waves of weaker enemies, players can greatly benefit from pairing Yunli with Jade. This duo can consistently deal significant damage, leveraging their complementary strengths. Robin is an excellent support option for the team, enhancing overall damage output while advancing the action order and boosting follow-up attack damage through her unique kit.
For the sustain slot,Aventurine is a strong team member, offering enemy debuffs, ally buffs, and shields, along with the ability to trigger follow-up attacks. His presence not only provides additional survivability but also contributes to the team’s offensive capabilities. However, given that Yunli can heal herself and Pure Fiction doesn’t typically demand as much survivability as MoC, players might opt for a different character. March 7th’s new form, Imaginary Hunt, could be a viable alternative, providing synergies that decrease the team’s overall reliance on premium characters. This setup offers flexibility and maintains high damage output while being more accessible to players with fewer limited characters.

Memory of Chaos Team: Yunli + Topaz + Robin + Huohuo
In contrast to Pure Fiction, MoC scenarios often involve fewer waves with tougher enemies, making Topaz a better choice than Jade as a secondary DPS option alongside Yunli. Topaz excels against elite or boss enemies with her single-target focus and also provides buffs to follow-up attacks, aligning well with Yunli’s strengths. Robin remains an excellent support option due to her ability to boost the team’s overall damage output, increase turn efficiency, and enhance follow-up attack damage, which is especially beneficial in MoC’s more challenging encounters.
For the sustain slot, Huohuo is a strong choice for duo-DPS comps as well, offering team-wide healing and energy regeneration, which helps to maintain a steady flow of Ultimates. This capability is particularly valuable in MoC, where survival and burst damage can be critical. Aventurine is still a higly viable option if players have access to him, but not to Huohuo. For more budget friendly options, Lynx and Imaginary Hunt March 7th can once again serve as effective replacements for more premium characters like Topaz or Huohuo.
