Reddit user No_Rich5432 posted an image of a newspaper found in the game that references Justin Beiber. In the image, the player does the best they can to make the newspaper easier to read by zooming in with the sniper rifle. The newspaper is titled The Daily Metro, and it further develops the world ofThe Last of Uswith headlines mentioning a water shortage and a highway repair being canceled. The Easter egg is at the top of the paper with an ad for “Uncharted 13” starring Justin Bieber as “Drake.” It’s unclear if the picture below the man is supposed to be Beiber or if it’s just a random graphic.
“Drake” refers toNathan Drake of theUnchartedseries, also created by Naughty Dog, who developedThe Last of Us. Nathan Drake is a charismatic yet somewhat reckless treasure hunter who travels the world uncovering historical mysteries. It’s fair to say that most people would not describe Justin Beiber as having those same qualities. The fact that this is an ad for the 13th installment in theUnchartedseries may be an inside joke based on how many sequels the franchise received.
For players who would like to see this Easter egg for themselves, they can find it at the top of the stairway in the building where Joel falls asleep. This is beforeJoel and Ellie escape Pittsburghduring the story. There are also random newspapers all over the abandoned towns and cities in the game, so it’s possible that this same Easter egg can be found in multiple areas.
