It’s been a while since players had a new game involving zombies to play. Despite thesuccess of blockbuster titles likeResident Evil 2in 2019, the lack of mindless undead in other franchises likeCall of Dutyhas left that group of gamers hungry for more. With the start of February,ZombieArmy 4: Dead Warmade byRebellion Developmentsis the latest survival-horror title that involves shooting zombies during war.

Zombie Army 4: Dead Waris the sequel toZombie Army Trilogywhich was released in 2015. Following the events of the first game, the plot picks up one year later in the same alternative World War 2 scenario. Players, as members of the Resistance, continue tohunt the remnants of the undead German army soldiers in Europeduring 1946. Playing through the campaign, discovering all the secrets, and continuing through or past the story with multiplayer should provide hours upon hours of entertainment in most cases.

Campaign Length

In the wake of Hitler’s defeat and banishment to Hell during the previous game, players will need to clean out the rest of the zombie infestation in Europe by visiting key locations throughout Italy, Croatia, and other countries caught in the post-apocalyptic scenario.

Going against the trend of incrediblylong story modes likeDragon Ball Z: Kakarot,Zombie Army 4: Dead Warcan be finished in a fairly short amount of time by comparison. To finish off the undead threat for good, players will need to commit between 10 - 12 hours on average to completely play through the story. Note that the estimated time may shift depending on if the difficulty is set to hard instead of easy or normal. Furthermore, clearing the campaign is subjective and depending on if players just want to reach the end credits or find every collectible, they could end up spending even more time than usual.

Horde Mode

Once the main story is history, players can commit to horde mode, a returning co-op feature from the previous game. Horde mode, like in theSniper EliteSeries also developed by Rebellion, can be played alone or with up to three other party members in an endless struggle against waves of relentless undead. Fighting through the ceaseless legions will open up even more areas on the map and more ungrateful dead to shoot. With the endless variables and possibilities in horde mode, players should add around 10 hours which brings the total time spent in-game to 20 hours in most cases.

In the end,Zombie Army 4: Dead Warmay not live up to the expectations of genre-defining titles such asLeft 4 Dead 2, but it is a strong game with replay value andscary surprises to discover. Survival-horror and third-person shooter fans will be able sink double digit hours into the story plus multiplayer and leave feeling content.

Zombie Army 4: Dead Waris available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
