Excitement forHalo Infiniteis building, as the game is expected to release this holiday season. While the game’s new features are certainly something to look forward to, there’s the looming promise of a return to form withHalo Infinite’scharacter customization. WhileHalo 4andHalo 5leaned heavily into the sci-fi aesthetic,Halo Infinite’sarmors look like the traditional, tactical armor fans got in the original games. That might not be the case, though.
Over on Twitter, leaker Tom Henderson shared some additional details aboutHalo Infinite’s character customization. Specifically, Henderson called out the mentality ofHalo Infinite’scosmetic options being “true to the franchise,” which has been an overarching theme in theHalocommunity. Rather, Henderson states that the cosmetics will be more in line withApex Legendsthan what many fans seem to be expecting currently.

Henderson stated thatHalo Infinite’scustomization is going to include “a lot of wacky stuff,” a move that might prove to be controversial.As an example ofApex Legends’cosmeticinfluence, Henderson says that one of the Christmas skin cosmetics resembles a snowman, though there’s no attached image to show precisely what that would look like.Halo Infiniteboasts more customization than some of the other entries in the franchise, but its emphasis on a battle pass system has caused some stark differences in how the game’s customization will operate.
In the past few months, 343 Industries has stressedHalo Infinite’scharacter customization heavily. Those lucky enough to get intoHalo Infinite’s first Flight beta test got to test the system in earnest, but the game has promised a bevy of options for fans when the game first launches. If Henderson’s leak is accurate, it might end up being seen as a bait and switch by fans that were hoping fortraditionalHaloarmor sets.
On the flip side, it’s too early to cry doom yet. While the comparison toApex Legends’cosmetic system might turn some fans off of the game, that very system has grantedApex Legendsbetter longevity, and 343 Industries certainly hasn’t confirmed that the customization options will be wacky just yet. However,Halo Infinite’slight-hearted multiplayer AI companionsmight be seen as a step in that direction.
It’s impossible to gauge just whereHalo Infinite’scosmetics will fall at this stage, and it seems likely that 343 Industries will be open to community feedback regardless. It’s possible that the content rollout will be similar toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare,though, where cosmetics started out with realistic looks but got gradually zanier.
