Once Jin Sakai has recruited every possible ally inGhost of Tsushima’s first act, the focus on the story will turn to the rescue of Lord Shimura. Having rescued Taka from the Mongol prison camp in “The Broken Blacksmith,” Jin, Yuna, and Taka find themselves looking for a viable forge to craft the tools necessary to storm Castle Kaneda.
“Hammer and Forge” takes place at the tail ofGhost of Tsushima’s first act, pitting the group against a large force of Mongol invaders who’ve taken over the small town surrounding Komatsu forge. Clearing out and acquiring the working forge is the mission’s ultimate goal, which is the first part of completing Act 1’s final task: “Forge a tool to climb the walls of Castle Kaneda.”

How to Begin “Hammer and Forge” in Ghost of Tsushima
To begin “Hammer and Forge,” head to the mission marker at the town of Komatsu Forge. It is located just east of Fort Ohira, which is where a large chunk of “The Tale of Ryuzo” took place.
Objectives:
Jin will discover a small group of Mongols terrorizing the few remaining townspeople. Begin fighting them to start the mission in earnest. Yuna will appear from one of the windows to support Jin with arrow fire.Once the Mongols have been dealt with, speak with Yuna to move forward
Accompany Yuna to Komatsu Forge
After speaking with Yuna, both she and Jin decide that it is time to stop running. They agree that must head to find the others, and find a way to stand up and keep the town from falling back into the hands of the Mongols. Jin knows that without the forge, and Taka’s help, he has little chance of getting into Castle Kaneda.
Before heading out with Yuna, take a moment to loot the area. There are several Mongol bodies with arrows, and several buildings with all kinds of items. It is not required, but there is no harm in doing it as the Mongols present no threat at that moment.
After Yuna, Taka, and Jin discuss the fact that they will be staying, Jin then heads out into the town to rescue Yukio.
From the forge, Yukio is shown to be roughly 80 meters away. Follow the wind until a quest marker becomes visible. At this point, screaming and shouting is heard coming from the general direction of the quest marker.
When approaching the building - or any dangerous situation, for that matter - make sure to use the touchpad button to initiateFocused Hearing.Using this special techniquewill reveal all allies and enemies in a small area around Jin. Here, Jin will see that there are two enemies on the lower floor. One will head outside and around the corner. If Jin plays it correctly, he can assassinate the Mongol coming around the corner without alerting any others. Once he accomplishes this, look for the small entrance on the side of the building. Wait for the enemy inside the building to pass, then use the small door. Once inside, quietly assassinate the Mongol. Head upstairs to find Yukio.
Be careful! In hostage situations, if the Mongols see Jin, they will begin trying to execute prisoners. A small icon over an enemies head will indicate that it is heading to the prisoners. Kill that Mongol first.
Find Yukio’s Wife:
After rescuing Yukio, he asks Jin to help rescue his wife. Follow Yukio out of the building to move the mission ahead.
Immediately after leaving the building, the group will run into a single Mongol patrolling the area. He will appear to stand still for several moments, but be careful when approaching him for an assassination. If Jin is not quick enough, the Mongol can move suddenly and become alarmed by Jin’s presence.
As the group moves on, they will spot a group of Mongols chasing after two civilians.
Head to the roof just to the left of the trail to reach high ground above the Mongols. This will allow for Jin to get at least one through assassination, possibly more depending on how the player has investedGhost of Tsushima’s technique points.
Upon returning to the forge, Jin learns that Yuna set out to perform her own rescue mission. Jin decides he must help.

Help Yuna with her Rescue Mission
Jin will set out to help Yuna, as the Mongols are now entering the town in greater numbers.
As Jin heads out to find Yuna, he will come across far more Mongols than when he was heading back to the forge with the Yukio and the rest of the group. It is possible to bypass many of them if Jin is patient, and uses stealth properly. At the other end of the spectrum, if Jin wants a fight, there are ample opportunities to do so. The main courtyard just beyond the forge is filled with Mongols. Jin can stay to the right of the entrance if he wishes to avoid combat.
Jin will find Yuna waiting near the bridge that crosses the river. She is scouting the compound that sits across the bridge. Follow Yuna into the compound to rescue the hostages and move onto the forge.
The Mongols patrol around the outside of the house. Jin can either quietly handle each enemy individually, or take on the whole lot with Yuna’s help. Once they are handled, take the hostages back to the forge.
There will be small pockets of enemies along the path back to the forge. Be careful, and listen for the sounds of Mongols talking. Once the group makes it back, prepare to defend the forge.
Help Defend Komatsu Forge from Mongol Attack
Once the group has discussed their last stand, Taka will light the forge todraw the Mongols in. This begins something along the lives of a ‘survival’ round, with waves of Mongols attacking. The battle will culminate with a Mongol warlord. The key to this fight is to not get overwhelmed. Focus on taking out archers first, as they can kill very quickly, especially at higher difficulties. Archers can also be incredibly annoying when taking on an otherwise simple enemy. Having to focus on the archer and an enemy can prove fatal.
Once the mission is complete, make sure to watch the short cutscene of Khotun Khan and Lord Shimura at Castle Kaneda. This will be one ofGhost of Tsushima’s more important story moments.
