As exploration takesGenshin Impactplayers further, there is always a constant that Travelers can rely on whether it comes to earning Primogems: Hidden Achievements. With the release of the new region, the Fontaine Research Institute Region and Liffey Region have brought a multitude of shocking lore and new puzzles for players to challenge themselves with.
The Research Institute is known for its groundbreaking (in the literal sense) experiments in the Arkhium Stock and the genius intellect of its researchers, who still hope to bring change to the waters of Fontaine.

The ruins in the new area ofGenshin Impactgive players a deeper insight into the failures of something that had the potential to be glorious. The lore behind the numerous experiments conducted by the Fontaine Research Institute can be hidden within the many Cipher Puzzles located around the two regions. These Cipher Puzzles can be decoded through Energy Terminals and Viewfinders - which are new devices in Fontaine that players should familiarize themselves with.
The following guide will list all the locations and methods by which players can unlock the barriers and ciphers. Additionally, locating and unlocking all six Cipher Puzzles will grant Travelers the Hidden Achievement: The Calendar of the Future is Longer Than the Diary of the Past.
Cipher Puzzle #1
Starting at the Statue of Seven in the Liffey Region, players should turn around and head down the stairs in front of them. After they head down two flights of stairs, they should come acrossan Energy Transfer Terminaltowards theirleft. In front of it, there will be a barrier and an Exquisite Chest behind it.
Once they activate it, players have to point it at the first Viewfinder that pops up on the screen in front of them, which will then show the hidden puzzle adjacent to it. They’ll be able to see the white Cipher, and all Travelers have to do is aim the square target at it to unlock the passage and read Cipher Letter (VI).
Thenext four locations are accessible through the same teleport waypointas they are within the vicinity of each other.
Cipher Puzzle #2
Teleport to the waypoint right in front ofthe Experimental Field Generator Boss, turn around, and glide northwest to the Executive Office ruins. Before going inside the office, players will need to grab theOusia Block on the second floor. It will be placed near awindow-like opening, and they just need to climb the wall to reach it.
Immediately drop and head through the opening into the Office. There, players will find a Fixed Storage Device with Pneuma locked onto it- players have to disable that by hitting it with the Ousia Block they now carry.
Once completed,players will have to climb back up to the second floorto access the Energy Terminal. It will be guardedby a Clockwork Mek, so after defeating it, the Energy Terminal will unlock, and players will be able to view the white Cipher Letter (V).
Cipher Puzzle #3
To locate the next puzzle, Travelers can teleport back to the same waypoint near the Experimental Field Generator and head downstairs to the lower floor. Players have the option to either glide down to the floor behind them or turn right and take the stairs. It would be faster for players to just drop through the hole in the ruins in front of the teleport waypoint and glide west to the Energy Terminal.
Before starting, players will have topick up the Ousia Blockbehind themthat will be placed atop the wall and hit the Energy Storage block to remove the Pneuma application on it. Once it turns blue, players can access the Energy Terminal towards their right and aim the target to unlock Cipher Letter (II).
Cipher Puzzle #4
The fourth location can be found right behind the Experimental Field Generator boss, so players will have to teleport back to the same waypoint as before. They will need to enter the boss arena andclimb to the upper floor. There will be an Energy Terminal straight ahead, and it only needs to be activated to aim at the Cipher on the wall. This will allow players to unlock Cipher Letter (III).
Cipher Puzzle #5
After unlocking the previous puzzle, players can head east towards the Materials Office, where they will find the fifth Cipher. To unlock this, players have to complete theFontaine Research Institute Chronicles Quest, which can be unlocked after speaking toChalmetin theMaterials Office.
After this is done, they need only access the Energy Terminal beside her and aim it at the Cipher Puzzle on the opposite wall. This will unlock the Cipher Letter (I).
Cipher Puzzle #6
The final Cipher Puzzle is located in the Central Laboratory Ruins area, and players can access it by teleporting to the waypoint north of the area. Glide down to the ruin below and enter the basement area, where players will see a number of Energy Terminals. Travelers shouldhead straight towards the end of the corridorand then turn left.
They will spot an Ousia Block, which will need to be picked up and used on theEnergy Storage Block at the entranceto remove the Pneuma. Once the device is activated, they can unlock the cage andpick up the Energy block.
The Energy Block will originally be red, and Energy will need to be transferred for it to work. To do this, players need toactivatethe Energy Terminalat the end of the corridorand aim the target at the blue Energy Block.Click the button to grab the Energy and then deposit it on the red Energy Block.
Run back and pick up the now blue Energy Block andplace it near the red Energy Terminal. This will unlock the cage and allow players access to the locked Energy Terminal. Travelers need only aim it at the Viewfinder once and then the Cipher Puzzle that will be shown.
Players will gain access to the final Cipher Letter (IV) andreceive the Hidden Achievement: The Calendar of the Future is Longer Than the Diary of the Past.
