After three and a half years,Genshin Impactis finally increasing its resin cap, as players will now be able to accumulate up to 200 Original Resin instead of 160. While Fontaine has famously brought several quality-of-life updates toGenshin Impact, players have long clamored for HoYoverse to increase the resin cap. Original Resin is a currency that players spend to obtain rewards from certain activities – taking out bosses, clearing out domains, or completing a Ley Line Outcrop. This currency passively regenerates at a speed of one Original Resin every eight minutes, and can even be stored in the form of a Condensed Resin for every 40 units that the player has.
However, given that the Traveler can only hold up to five Condensed Resins at any time, the system encourages players to frequently spend their resin by engaging with the game’s repeatable content. Reaching the resin cap takes just a bit over 21 hours, which is why the argument for ahigher resin limit inGenshin Impacthas been so popular in the community.
Genshin Impact Increasing Original Resin Limit to 200
Version 4.7 forGenshin Impactis expected to add three new characters, introduce the Imaginarium Theater, and raise the Original Resin cap from 160 to 200. The latter was announced on May 22 and will be explained in detail during the developer livestream on May 24. Though it remains to be seen if the new resin cap will also feature an overflow mechanic as seen inHonkai: Star Rail, it should allowGenshin Impactplayers to not lose any Original Resin if they happen to log in at roughly the same time every day.
While someGenshin Impactfans have mused that therelease ofWuthering Wavescould have inspired HoYoverse to finally raise the resin cap, it’s certainly a welcome change that will give players more flexibility in how to approach activities such as artifact farming. Fontaine added the Crystalfly Trap, which made collecting Crystal Cores for Condensed Resin a trivial matter, and the new resin cap should (on paper) complement the quality-of-life feature well.
Though it remains to be seen what Natlan will bring to the table in Version 5.0 and beyond, the Fontaine patch cycle will likely be remembered for touching up on old features, as well as for streamlining the leveling process of artifacts and characters. Much like underwater content was the highlight in Fontaine, players can expect HoYoverse to place great emphasis onmounts in Natlan. Since players got their first impressions of Fontaine during the livestream for Version 3.7, there’s a decent chance thatGenshin Impactwill give fans their first taste of Natlan on May 24.
