Player Mistakes

Back to All Characters

There are several types of roles a character can fill inGenshin Impact. The star of the team is usually the main DPS, with sub-DPS right behind them. There are many 4-starGenshin Impactcharacters that excel as a sub-DPS, but a main DPS is not as common, especially a dedicated one.

Before version 2.8, the only 4-star dedicated main DPS is Yanfei, but with the release of Shikanoin Heizou, the legal advisor is no longer alone on the list. When playing Heizou inGenshin Impact, Travelers need to be aware of these common mistakes and try their best to avoid them.

6Using Skill Without Declension Stack

Heizou’sElemental Skill inGenshin Impactcan hit like a truck, but only if players use it properly. From his first Ascension Passive, Heizou will grain oneDeclension Stackwhen he triggers Swirl. Each Stack of Declension will increase the Detective’s damage, and up to four can be collected at a time. This Stack can also be collected by holding the Skill, which will cause Heizou to slowly charge his hit. However, holding Heizou’s Skill can be time-consuming, so it’s best to avoid using this method to gain Declension.

After Heizou obtains four Declension Stacks, his next Skill hit will deal an extraConvictiondamage, which will be additive with the primary multiplier and Declension’s bonus. At talent level 8, Heizou will have around a 900% multiplier on his Elemental Skill; a whopping number, especially for a 4-star. However, if players use the Skill without Declension Stack, at level 8, the whopping 900% drops to merely 364%.

5Focusing Too Much On Energy Recharge

Heizou’s Burst deals decent damage, so it’s not a bad thing to want it to be available. However, unlike otherAnemo characters likeGenshin ImpactXiao or Jean, Heizou’s ability is far from demanding. Shikanoin Heizou’s Elemental Burst only requires 40 Energy to be used. It also has a low, 12s cooldown, making it easy for Travelers to spam it.

As long as players have a randomGenshin ImpactBatteryor are fighting against a horde of enemies, Heizou won’t have any issue regaining his Burst, even without additional Energy Recharge.

4Using Heizou As A Sub-DPS

Shikanoin Heizou inGenshin Impactismost suitable as a main DPS, but he can still work as a sub-DPS. Even so, it’s better if players avoid using Heizou for this role and opt for dedicated support like Sucrose instead. This is because, apart from small damage, sub-DPS Heizou won’t be able to provide anything else for the team. Meanwhile, dedicated supports like Sucrose, Kazuha, and Venti can all bring extra utility to the party.

For example, unlike Sucrose who can grant a massive Elemental Mastery (EM) bonus, Heizou can only give 80 EM. The Detective also can’t provide an Elemental DMG Bonus like Kazuha, or easy Energy restoration like Venti.

3Not Having Enough Elemental Applicators

Unlike Xiao who can be played on a Geo + Anemo party, it’s better if players use Heizou with a Swirl team. Because, unlikeXiao who can deal a raw DPSwithout relying on any Elemental Reactions, Heizou’s play style inGenshin Impactwill mostly revolve around Swirl reaction.

Therefore, it’s crucial for players to provide enough Elemental applications. Ideally, the enabler units should be able to apply Element without being on the field. Those who can easily cheat Internal Cooldown like Xingqiu, Yelan, and Xiangling, are also excellent choices.

2Not Knowing How Swirl Works

When it comes to Shikanoin Heizou’sbest build inGenshin Impact, players should really consider the enemies they will be facing. Heizou can perform greatly if players build him to deal Swirl damage, but Swirl has a rather complex mechanic.

First, Swirl’s damage will significantly increase if there is more than one enemy nearby. This is because the Element will rebound between enemies if they’re close to each other. Second, even though this is a correct case, Swirl is less effective when used on a Hydro-affected enemy, so solely relying on a Hydro enabler is also a poor choice.

1Not Using Heizou’s Best Equipment

Because of the Swirl mechanic, Shikanoin Heizou’s best equipment will depend on the number of enemies nearby. If there’s only one (like with most bosses), then players should use ATK/Anemo/Crit artifacts with offensive weapons.

Meanwhile, if there are a lot of opponents on the battlefield, a triple Elemental Mastery build with the Sacrificial Fragments can be an easy way to annihilate all enemies at once. As for the artifact set, 4-Viridescent Venerer is the best option for both builds. But if it’s unavailable, players should use ATK artifacts (Gladiator’s Finale, Shimenawa’s Reminiscence, etc) for the first build, and Elemental Mastery (Wanderer’s Troupe) for the second.
