Gamescom Opening Night Livekicked off the festivities with a bang, showcasing several awesome trailers for already confirmed and newly revealedtitles likeDead Island 2, Hogwarts Legacy, New Tales from the Borderlands, Atlas Fallen, Where Winds Meet,and far more. Of course, more information will trickle out over the next few days, as Gamescom is taking place in Cologne, Germany through August 28.
While fans should keep an eye out for moreGamescomannouncements then, it seems the event is ready for its 2023 showcase too. It stands to reason nothing but the dates are confirmed, nothing like appearances, but fans can go ahead and mark their calendar for August 23-27, 2023. Furthermore, it also confirms that Opening Night Live will take place on August 22, really shifting everything forward by a day compared to this year.

This announcement is posted around the Gamescom event, with host Geoff Keighley also recently sharing it to his personal Twitter account. Of course, that’s still some time away, and there are plenty of gaming events to look forward to between now and the end of the year. The rumored PlayStation Showcase, Disney and Marvel Games Showcase,Ubisoft Forward, and a potential standaloneAssassin’s Creedevent all take place in September. From Keighley too, fans can expect The Game Awards to take place in December and Summer Game Fest next year prior to Gamescom 2023.
In fact, Keighley also recently confirmed the date for The Game Awards as December 8, taking place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. There will be new trailers, world premieres, and everything fans have come to expect from a Keighley event. It’ll be interesting to see how it compares to Gamescom Opening Night Live, but it’ll likely last about as long and feature just as many games. Perhaps there will be some highly anticipated games likeDragon Age: Dreadwolfat The Game Awardstoo, but of course, nothing about the event is known quite yet.
Fans can expect the nominees to be revealed the weeks heading into The Game Awards, and it’ll be interesting to see ifGod of War Ragnarokcan snatch theGOTY Award fromElden Ring. Either way, fans have a lot of dates they can mark on their calendar, going as far as out as Gamescom 2023 at least.
