AsSuper Smash Bros Ultimate’sroster continues to grow, it seems everyone has their own pick for who’d they like to see join the fighting game’s roster of video game legends. From Steve andSephirothtoPersona 5’sJoker and Banjo & Kazooie, the lineup so far has been filled with dream picks, but there’s still a ton of characters not currently part of the roster that fans are clamoring to see added.
One of the biggest of these names is Master Chief, with the stoic space marine andHaloprotagonist currently on many players' wishlists. Rumors have swirled since the beginning of Nintendo’s DLC fighter announcements that Master Chief would eventually claim his spot amongstSuper Smash Bros Ultimate’slineup, and according toHalo’soriginal composer Martin O’Donnell, he’d be very down to help Nintendo in welcoming the character to the franchise.

Speaking on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, O’Donnell was asked whether he’d entertain the idea of returning toHaloonce again if it meant helping bringMaster ChieftoSuper Smash Bros Ultimatewith some form of theme remix. Most characters who joinSmashhave their authentic music brought to the game after all, and with O’Donnell originally composing the now-iconicHalotheme, it would be fitting to have him return for a potentialSmashintegration. “I would love to be asked,” the composer admits, laughing when host Reece Reilly poses the idea. However, he goes on to admit that he’d be “surprised” if Microsoft asked him to be involved in the project, especially considering O’Donnell hasn’t worked with the company in over a decade and supposedly isn’t on the best of terms with the team. That doesn’t mean he’s against the idea though, telling Reilly: “if Nintendo asked me, that’d be great, I’d love to do that.” ConsideringNintendoand Microsoft have formed a stronger collaborative relationship in recent years, it’ll be interesting to see if Master Chief does get added toSmashand, if so, whether O’Donnell would be brought on board.
Of course, the likelihood of Master Chief’s integration into the series is growing smaller through every DLC released, with Nintendo having limited slots left for additional fighters. As it stands, only 3 more names will graceFighters Pass 2, which Nintendo has announced will be the final slate ofUltimateDLC content. With fans wanting the likes of Sora, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Rayman, and Dante for the game, it seems the final slots will be watched eagerly.
