WithFinal Fantasy 7 Remakefinally releasing earlier this month, fans have quickly weaved their way through the entire game and are eagerly awaiting more. As many will no doubt know, the game was only the first section ofFinal Fantasy 7’sfairly lengthy original campaign, with the remake concluding at the end ofthe Midgar sequence. Of course, fans are now unsure how many chapters of the game there will be before they finally see its conclusion, however, a recent interview has at least revealed what players can expect from the story going forward.
Conducting an interview for theFinal Fantasy 7 RemakeUltimania book, Yoshinori Kitase, the producer of the game, claimed that very little wikk be changed in regards to the original PS1 classic’s story. This is supposedly due to the fact that fans are entering the game with the desire to see iconic moments from the title re-envisioned for modern hardware, and the team wants to fully deliver on that request.

“I’ve talked about this extensively with [co-director Tetsuya] Nomura, but I’m sure fans of the original are expecting to revisit familiar locations and scenes, so we have strong feelings to not stray away from that,“Yoshinori Kitaseclaims. “From here on out, we’re not drastically changing the story and making it into something completely different than the original,” he continues, assuring fans that “even though it’s a Remake, please assume that FF7 will still be FF7 as usual.”
It’s no doubt a very admirable viewpoint for a lot of fans, many of which have been waiting to see their favorite moments fromFinal Fantasy 7souped up with modern graphics and animations. After all, with the game originally sporting dated mechanics and visuals, the remake has the opportunity to help players re-imagine the classic title in a whole new way. However, there are also fans who will likely find the news disappointing, especially asFinal Fantasy 7 Remake’schanges to the Midgar sectionmade classic parts of the story feel fresh and exciting.
Regardless, it’s great to see Square Enix being more vocal on the future plans forFinal Fantasy 7going forward. Recently, the company revealed to players that it still hasno idea how many chapters the game will take to complete. This led many to assume that the remake was currently lacking a solid direction, especially as the general belief was that the series would be a trilogy. Hopefully, this shows that there’s definitely a strict plan for the games as development on future installments moves forward.
