Summary
At the 2023 London Fan Fest,Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed that players will soon be able to get Torgal as a mount, and other rewards, as part of the long-awaited collaboration withFinal Fantasy 16. While no exact date was given for theFinal Fantasy 14andFinal Fantasy 16crossover, Yoshida showed a trailer to give players a glimpse of what to expect when the event goes live.
To start the 2023 London Fan Fest, an extended trailer for the upcoming Dawntrail expansion was shown. Following that, Yoshida addressed the audience in a cosplay of one of the new Jobs coming toFinal Fantasy 14upon the expansion’s release. Thisnew melee DPS job was then revealed as the Viper, an original Job forFinal Fantasy 14that uses dual swords that can be combined into a singular two-handed weapon. This new Job’s fighting style immediately drew comparisons toFinal Fantasy 9protagonist Zidane Tribal, who wielded similar weapons. But the reveal of the Viper was far from the only one Yoshida had to show the London crowd.

Towards the conclusion of the London Fan Fest keynote, Yoshida revealed in his capacity as producer of both games that the crossover betweenFinal Fantasy 14andFinal Fantasy 16would take prior to the launch ofDawntrail.Though no release date was given for theFF16crossover, a new trailer revealed thatFF14players who complete a series of quests will be able to earn Torgal as a mount, a Torgal pup minion, music fromFF16as orchestrion rolls, and Clive’s outfit as a glamour. In addition, the Torgal mount will have a specialaction that players can use to pet the dog.
TheFinal Fantasy 16event was dubbed “The Path Infernal” by Yoshida, and it will see the Warrior of Light meet Clive, the main protagonist ofFF16. The two will team up to take on a special version of Ifrit taken directly from Valisthea. Prior to the launch ofShadowbringers,Final Fantasy 14had a similar crossover withFinal Fantasy 15, which was marked by the appearance of Noctis. It is likely thatClive will serve in a similar capacity to Noctisin the upcomingFF16event, but Yoshida said that players will have to play through the quests to figure out why Clive is in Eorzea.
With plenty of new rewards andachievements forFinal Fantasy 14playersto earn, the event will begin during the 6.5 patch series. It remains to be seen what rewardsFinal Fantasy 16players will get as part of the crossover withFinal Fantasy 14.
Final Fantasy 14is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version launching in Spring 2024.
