Ten years is often a significant milestone after a game’s release, and developers sometimes do something special to celebrate it. However, Naughty Dog does not seem willing to wait the whole decade and is rumored to be already working on a remake of 2013’sThe Last of Us, which many considerone of the best games on thePlayStation 3.
While the studio has not officially announced a remake ofThe Last of Us, Naughty Dog has not denied the rumors either. Recently, fans discerned more evidence indicating that the studio is working on a remake of their character-driven zombie adventure.

Spanish language Twitter account Universo PlayStation recently discovered something interesting in the LinkedIn account for one of Naughty Dog’s Quality Assurance testers. His list of experience with the company includes quality assurance testing and support for an “unannounced remake project.” Admittedly, that is not very much to go on and does not necessarily point toa remake ofThe Last of Usin particular. However, this latest leak lends some additional credence to the current rumors.
Rumors of aThe Last of Usremake surfaced last year and hinted at a possible 2022 release date. Director Neil Druckmann fanned the flames of speculation with his choice of headwear back in February. He sat down for an interview about theUnchartedmovie from earlier this year but did so in aThe Last of Us Part 1branded hat. While it might sound like a stretch, many fans interpreted Druckmann’s hat as his way of subtly revealing the remake’s official title.
As for what fans think of the possible remake, opinions remain split. The Last of Usis only about nine years old, which some feel is too soon for a complete remake instead of a simple graphics upgrade. Not to mention that2022 is a very crowded year for developer Naughty Dog, with the PS5 version ofThe Last of Us Part 2, an HBO series, and possibly a standaloneFactionsmultiplayer mode all supposed to be coming this year. Thus, some might worry if late 2022 might be oversaturated with theLast of Uscontent. Others would have preferred if Naughty Dog revisited their older titles, such asJack and Daxter.
Of course, this is all based on the assumption thatThe Last of Usremake releases this year. The above-mentioned QA tester’s LinkedIn profile only mentioned an unannounced remake, and there’s been no official announcement from either Naughty Dog or Sony. Thus, it’s still best to take these rumors with a grain of salt.
The Last of Us Remakeis rumored to be in development for PS5.
