Stardew Valleytook the indie gaming community by storm, and it’s remained one of the most popular farming sims out there. One of the game’s many appeals stems from its in-depth romance and marriage system–not only does each marriageable character have a distinct personality and goals, but they also have their own storyline to follow. One fan recently took the game’s magic to the real world when their fiancé gave them aStardew Valley-themed marriage proposal.

InStardew Valley, players can propose to other characters by giving them an item. For most characters, this item is the Mermaid’s Pendant, a blue amulet shaped like a spiraling shell on a string. This isn’t the first timeStardew Valleyfans have proposedwith replica pendants, but it may be one of the most charming.

Redditor FrickDragon showed off the pendant their boyfriend made for them in a recent post. They stated that after being together for nine years, their boyfriend finally asked them to marry him–with a gorgeous recreation of the Mermaid’s Pendant, shown in what seems to be a pale blue foam imitation clamshell jewelry box. The necklace seems to be made from either plastic or resin, resulting in a certain luminous glow. It looks almost exactly like the itemStardew Valleyplayers give their intended spousesafter reaching 10 hearts.

Not every character inStardew Valleycan be wooed with a Mermaid’s Pendant–players who want the adorable shadow personKrobus to move in with themmust bring out a Void Ghost Pendant. However, the Mermaid’s Pendant still seems to have become something of a symbol of romance within the game’s fan community. Not only did other fans of the game immediately know what FrickDragon had received, but many of them also expressed excitement and congratulations.

As of writing, it appears that most fans are pleased for FrickDragon, both because of the marriage proposal and because their replica Mermaid’s Pendant is beautiful. One user joked that FrickDragonwould only have nine hearts, so they should say no like an in-game character would. A second character joked that nine years inStardew Valleywould be about 360 hours, so it was about time he proposed. This second user also noted that they’d seen many recreations of the Mermaid’s Pendant over the years, but FrickDragon’s was the best. Several other users stated that it was wonderful the pair understood each other well enough for the boyfriend to propose with something he knew FrickDragon would like.
