Redditor Jonin_117 achieved the feat, reaching the max level of 50 without ever leaving Goodsprings. The post lays out the full story, where they were able to utilize a speech check conversation glitch inFallout: New Vegasto gain infinite XP without ever fighting an enemy. According to the user, it took a massive four hours and around 7000 speech checks to finally reach the max level of 50. While this does remove the element of progression from the game, there’s an unexpected upside to the decision. Without the restriction of levels, they’re able to go anywhere they want in the world and complete content in any order they please, as they won’t face too much pushback from stronger enemies.
Fallout: New Vegashas massive roleplaying potential, and it’s great to see players continuing to unlock it. While some might see achieving max level through a glitch as cheating, ultimately it’s a single-player game where gamers can play any way they want, and the user is clearly not trying to impress anyone here. This glitch in particular has been known about for years, and the fact it was never patched shows that it’s not a huge issue. Players who want max level quickly can use the glitch, and those that don’t are able to simply ignore it.
It remains to be seen if Obsidian will ever get another attempt at theFalloutfranchise. Recently,Obsidian veterans spoke out about wanting aFallout: New Vegasremaster, but right now it seems that Bethesda holds all the cards. With the developer busy withStarfield, andThe Elder Scrolls 6seemingly years away, it could be as long as a decade before gamers get their hands onFallout 5. Allowing Obsidian another crack at the whip in the meantime would be the perfect way to fill theFallout-shaped hole in the hearts of gamers at the moment.
