The anime lineup of Fall 2023 will bring back to screens quite the cast of strong shounen protagonists alongside even newer faces of the shounen genre with different new abilities and overall power. With onlyso much shonen to consumefor the average fan, here’s a sneak peek of how these protagonists compare in strength.
5Kuro Kumogakure ( Under Ninja)
Kuro Kumogakure is the protagonist of the newly adapted animeUnder Ninjaand a descendant of the Kumogakure clan. He isan undercover ninja specializingin infiltration and is a part of the ninja organization of Japan. Kuro, however, is a NEET, and unlike elite ninjas who receive missions at regular intervals, he has been out of work for a while.
Casually living as a NEET, He suddenly gets a serious mission to infiltrate a high school, and, along with the task comes the latest gear suitable for his mission. As a ninja, Kuro is skilled in combat and infiltration. He possesses above-average physical reflexes and senses, reflecting his current Genin rank in the ninja organization, making him a formidable protagonist.
4Loid Forger (Spy X Family)
Loid Forger, codename Twilight, is back with the return ofSpy X Family’s second season. The legendary figure of the espionage world is the series' protagonist and is a literal jack of all trades with an array of skills that make him very formidable. Earning the title of the best spy in all of Westalis, Loid’s combat skills are second only to his undercover wife, Yor Forger, which is no small feat. He also possesses superhuman physical capabilities and above-average reflexes.

Not only is he formidable due to his combat prowess but also his high mastery of different skills ranging from firearms to disguise and even as far as parkour. Most important of all, however, is his level of intellect. Being a prodigy-level individual all his life, Loid is adept at tactics and combat strategies. With the ability to proficiently pick up on skills for various purposes, he does all with the streamlined intention of maximum efficiency at his missions, and the second season will only further show his capabilities.
3Rakurou Hizutome (Shangri la Frontier)
Better known as Sunraku, Rakurou is the central character of the much-awaitedShangri La Frontieranime. Rakurou is a second-year high school student whose only interest is finding bad games and beating the crap out of them, thus making him an excellent gamer like every other game; he does the same when he is introduced to the VR game Shangri-La Frontier.
He takes up the in-game character of Sunraku in the form of his actual life appearance, only with more agility and power. Alongside his increased physical attributes in the game, he is proficient in using weapons, mainly daggers, and dual blades. With only a few episodes of its debut season out so far, Sunraku’s abilities will be further highlighted as the season progresses.
2Himura Kenshin ( Rurouni Kenshin)
The latest reboot of the Rurouni Kenshin series has brought back the infamous Himura Kenshin, famously known as the Hitokiri Battousai. With this particular reboot set during the aftermath of the Bakamatsu era and entering into the Meiji era, Kenshin is now a wandering pacifist. Having left behind the fear-inducing title of the Hitokiri Battousai, Kenshin wanders around in search of redemption and has promised never to kill again.

This vow ensures he carries a sakabatō, a sword forged inversely. As he wanders, he encounters Kaoru Kamiya, who helps remove her father’s impostor and begins living at her dojo. Despite his atonement vow,Kenshin is not a weak opponent, as his skill is surpassed by none in the ongoing season. Peerless in both combat and strength, Kenshin has yet to encounter a troublesome opponent.
1Fate Graphite (Berserk of Gluttony)
Fate Graphite is the protagonist of thedark fantasy anime seriesBerserk of Gluttonyand the owner of one of the Mortal Sin skills: the skill of Gluttony, which is the strongest of all the Mortal Sin skills. Only a guard at the castle, his life takes a strange turn when he has to kill a bandit on the verge of escape for trespassing, only to awaken his skill of Gluttony.
With the ability to steal power and abilities and make them his through his skill, Fate essentially becomes an anomaly unrestricted by the conventional skill-level limits due to his ability. Fate’s Gluttony skill implies an insatiable potential for power that will only increase as the current season progresses.
