With the impending release of Shadow of the Erdtree just on the horizon, developers have begun to reveal additional details regarding what the DLC has to offer, with concept art, screenshots, and videos providing fans with a deeper look into the world of the Land of Shadow. This notably included a full cinematicstory trailer for Shadow of the Erdtree, which provided a chilling peek into a bloody war that was waged under the command of the expansion’s main antagonist, Messmer the Impaler. The trailer additionally teased the fate of Miquella, the beloved missing demigod who was said to have journeyed into the Land of Shadow before the events ofElden Ring.
Now, fans were given another look into the locales awaiting them in the Land of Shadow through leaked screenshots posted to the Korean video gameweb magazine Ruliweb, which featured several pictures of a monitor showcasing the overworld ofElden Ring’s only expansion. A majority of these images showcased the maps' regions, with areas ranging from vast plains to massive ruined structures overlooking high cliffs. There also appeared to be screenshots of a few of the new dungeons, particularly of a massive cave with stalagmites and cauldrons hanging all over the ceiling.

While the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion promises more of what earnedElden Ringits title as 2022’s Game of the Year, previous screenshots posted by developers hinted that a few of the new areas might also take inspiration from some of FromSoftware’s previous games. Several images of the DLC particularly suggested that the dark, gothic architecture and grotesque creatures ofBloodborneheavily influenced some ofElden Ring’s areas and enemies.
