AnElden Ringplayer was thoroughly humiliated in a fight against their mimic tear, a relatively easy fight when compared to the punishing retinue that typically await Tarnished behind golden fog walls.Elden Ringhas been a rich source of entertainment and comedy since release, from community collaboration in resolving boss fight woes, to hilarious moments of failure, visual glitches, and PvP prowess.

After granting Starscourge Radahn mercy from the scarlet rot, his strength that was once holding back the stars evaporates, sending a meteorite plummeting into the south of Limgrave. Navigating these rocks, held in the air by theGravity magic that permeates this mysterious region, answers a question that players would have likely had since descending the curiously placed elevator in Mistwood; whatever could this area be. None other than Nokron, the Eternal City, players will not spend long dwelling on the ironically named underground ruin before approaching a boss arena. Known as a mimic tear, this fight is by far one of the most unique inElden Ring, which sees a mercury-like substance transform into a clone of the player character, adopting the exact same, armor, weapons, and spells.

In a video uploaded by u/oeeom12, they approach the mimic tear equipped with two katanas and a variety of sorceries. Given that their replicaspawns with the Carian Knight’s Shield, the player must have it as an offhand alternative, a fact they will soon come to regret. After collecting their runes, meaning that this is not a first attempt, the player dodges away from the tracking of a glintstone scrap and a pursuing clone. Their very first attack is parried by the mimic, who proceeds to inflict a critical hit which annihilates the player’s health. Too stunned to dodge, the player is quickly finished off with two katana slashes, sent back to a Site of Grace in shame.

The mimic tear is often a comparatively trivial fight, but NPC enemies inElden Ringcan be quite deadly when afforded particular tools. The Moongrum Carian Knight is exemplary of this, notorious for parrying players as it guards the elevator to Rennala’s Chamber. Comments described their own experiences of the mimic tear humbling them, such as when one did not realize how trigger-happy the mimic would be whenin possession of the Fallingstar Beast Jaw.

Interestingly, the mimic tear will not adapt to equipment changes that occur once it has spawned, meaning that if players were to enter naked and without a weapon, and subsequently reequip, the mimic tear would stand no chance with just their fists. Some players however, have no need for anything but their fists,asElden Ringwas recently beaten this way, in a masterful display of mechanical mastery and patience.

Elden Ringis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
