Despite a lack ofthe challenging enemies typical ofDragon’s Dogmaquests, Chasing Shadows has proven to be a difficult side quest for some players. For those players looking to learn more about Chasing Shadows and how best to complete this quest, this guide is here to help.

How to Activate Chasing Shadows in Dragon’s Dogma?

Players must first enter the city of Gran Soren to open up the option to activate this quest. Chasing Shadows becomes available to players after they have accepted the Lure of the Abyss quest. That quest tasks players with speaking with Barnaby at the Pawn Guild in the city and retrieving the Portcrystal (one ofthe keys for fast traveling inDragon’s Dogma) at the bottom of the Everfall. Players should complete this quest first and then seek out Mason to launch Chasing Shadows.

Mason is a mysterious figure who can often be found either around the Fountain Square or resting in the Slums of the city. Speaking with him will bring up the quest and players then are pointed towards the Noble Quarter in Gran Soren, one of the best cities inthe world ofDragon’s Dogma. Chasing Shadows can only be started at night and so players need to stay at an inn or wait through the day cycle in the game before attempting this quest. Once players are near the entrance to the Duke’s Demesne, a short cutscene should begin, launching the quest.

After the first cutscene plays, players have to follow the suspect through Gran Soren. The figure has a recognizable lion shield on its back and walks at a leisurely pace through the city, making the shadowing relatively straightforward.

Players need to keep their distance, however, otherwise they will receive a mission failure for being caught. Fortunately, though, stalking NPCs is not a crime andplayers won’t end up inDragon’s Dogma’s jailsgetting caught here.

Eventually, the figure will make their way into the Venery section of Gran Soren to the marked location known as the Abandoned House. Once close enough, a new cutscene will play, showing an interaction between the figure the player was tailing and Madeleine. Once that conversation ends, the player just has to walk back to the center of town and speak with Arsmith to complete the quest.
