Dragon Ball FighterZwould normally be hosting its first major world tour event for the season around this time of year, but the situation around the world has put a stop to any official mass gatherings. As a result, Bandai Namco hasn’t been able to offer as many regular updates as it hoped, with the last introducingUltra Instinct Gokuinto the game.
But it looks like Bandai Namco has some big plans forDragon Ball FighterZin the near future. The publisher’s esports Twitter account recently posted a tweet claiming that it will be hosting a live showcase for the game this Sunday at 11 PDT. Anyone interested will be able to catch it on the Dragon Ball FighterZ Twitch channel.

The showcase will apparently go over news concerning the publisher’s plans forDragon Ball FighterZ' competitions in 2020 as well as future game updates and an “exclusive trailer.” The tweet emphasizes the trailer mention, which means it will likely reveal the next fighter to come withDragon Ball FighterZ' Season 3.
As it stands, Season 3 has three characters left to introduce intoDragon Ball FighterZ. Rumor has it that the next fighter to join the fray will be Master Roshi. In May, a screencap leaked online, displaying a new victory quote from Android 18 that read, “The old man is no slouch. Would be nice if he wasn’t a perv…”
Master Roshiwill be one of the game’s more unique characters, specifically because he can’t fly, which means he won’t be able to use Super Dash, one ofDragon Ball FighterZprimary mechanics. He wouldn’t be the first character with a handicap like this, though, and would probably have something more befitting of his character to replace it. For instance, Videl can’t reflect enemy attacks like other characters but she can dodge them.
As for the news on the2020Dragon Ball FighterZcompetitions, it’s hard to imagine that it won’t be an announcement of online tournaments. Bandai Namco pulled support for all its fighting games' physical tournaments earlier this year, and it’s not likely to renege on that decision since the coronavirus pandemic hasn’t calmed down.
The big concern for active players is thatDragon Ball FighterZ’snetcode is less than perfect (to put it lightly). Hopefully, one of the game updates mentioned in the tweet will bechanging the netcode from delay to rollback, which players have been asking for since day one. Otherwise, a world-tour level competition held online won’t go over well with the majority of the player base.
