The sentiment is one that fans share, with the uproar at the series’ cancellation being so prominent that DC Studios bossJames Gunn had to deny responsibility for cancelingDoom Patrol. Gunn took to social media to make it known that the decision predated his and Peter Safran’s takeover of the studio and had nothing to do with his upcoming DCU slate, as had been suggested. Carver’s crew went out on their terms, even adding in a special musical episode alongside the heavy existential crises the titular team undergoes while facing off against an omnipotent narcissist with a vendetta against them.
The cancellation is even more regrettable when considering the wealth ofmust-read comic book storylines featuring theDoom Patrolthat future seasons could have adapted to great success. With the new DCU kicking off with Creature Commandoes, a thematically similar property that Gunn hand-picked to be the first animated project for the new franchise,Doom Patroland its cast likely won’t return under the new continuity. However, fans can look to the Elseworld division of projects for what little hope remains that the Doom Patrol will return to grace the small screen once more.
