Blizzard has shared the two most popularDiablo 4classes from its recent open beta weekend, as part of an infographic detailing various interesting statistics. ForDiablo 4’s open beta, Blizzard unlocked all five of the game’s final classes: Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue, and Sorcerer. All five classes have a history going back to previous releases in theDiablofranchise. It’s always been interesting to consider which ofDiablo 4’s classes will prove more popular than the others, though.Class popularity inDiablogames has become a surprisingly transparent statistic recently. That’s because bothDiablo 3andDiablo 2: Resurrectedfeature seasonal leaderboards that allow players to see which classes are popular. ForDiablo 3’s early 2023 Season 28, Wizard and Necromancer are two popular classes. ForDiablo 2: Resurrected, Sorcerer is the most popular and Paladin is the second most popular, with Necromancer a distant third. Unsurprisingly, Sorcerer is one of those classes. While Blizzard didn’t share any specific statistics, it can probably be assumed that Sorcerer was dramatically more popular than the rest. The other most-played class during theDiablo 4beta was, also unsurprisingly, Necromancer. The Sorcerer and Necromancer’s popularity fromDiablo 2: ResurrectedandDiablo 3carried over intoDiablo 4.
As for why both the Sorcerer and Necromancer were so popular, both were considered the beta’s two strongest classes with regard to early game progression. BothDiablo 4’s Sorcerer classand the Necromancer have very strong ranged basic attack options. That allows them to deal high damage regardless of early itemization and with no meaningful skill synergies. Barbarian, Druid, and Rogue, on the other hand, need additional skills for mobility, crowd control, and sustained damage.
The infographic also shares some other interesting information regarding the open beta. For example, it confirms that over 2.6 million players earned their “Wolf Packs.” That means that they reached level 20, which requires a healthy amount of time investment. The Butcher was killed nearly 600,000 times, but killed players over 1.7 million times. And theWorld Boss Ashavawas killed over 100,000 times.
What the infographic makes most clear is thatDiablo 4is already very popular. When 2.6 million players level up a character they know will be deleted for launch, that shows a significant amount of interest. Whether players pick Sorcerer, Necromancer, or any ofDiablo 4’s other classes, it’s clear excitement to return to Sanctuary is only going to increase over the next two months.
