The villains featured throughout theDiablo 4campaign are some of the best boss fights in the entire game, which ultimately prompted some fans to wonder if the bosses weren’t being used to their full potential. Thestory ofDiablo 4takes place 50 years after the defeat of Malthael inReaper of Souls, and it introduces the player to a Sanctuary still reeling from that fateful calamity. In the wake of its crumbled nations, Lilith and Inarius have returned to the fold with agendas of their own, and it’s up to the players to save Sanctuary from the machinations of the Burning Hells once again.
ThoughDiablo 4has six Acts and five Regions, it boasts several memorable boss fights throughout the journey. From Elias and Astaroth, to Lilith herself, players are tested in their first playthrough in a way reminiscent ofDiablo 2. Beyond the story campaign,Ashava and other world bosses await inDiablo 4, and players even have a chance to square off against Lilith as a Pinnacle Boss at Level 100. However, there is one aspect that the community feels is lacking with the boss encounters fromDiablo 4’s campaign.

Unlike inDiablo 2andDiablo 3, the boss fights in the sequel aren’t repeatable. Once a player completes the campaign, they won’t have a chance to repeat the boss fights at a higher difficulty (such as World Tier 3). WhereasDiablo 3tied its Bounty system together with the bosses from each Act,Diablo 4has no such feature yet. The suggestion to have replayable campaign bosses was put forward by KurtiZ_TSW on theDiablo 4subreddit, and based on the support it received from other fans of the franchise, it would seem that it’s one of the bigger demands wanted by the community.
It’s certainly not an unreasonable request, as farming Act bosses has been a staple inDiablogames. While endless Baal runs could get painfully dull, the Charms dropped by the Lord of Destruction inDiablo 2’s Hell difficultywere valuable enough to make the grind worth enduring. With Nightmare Dungeons and Helltides,Diablo 4has a chance to diversify its endgame by offering players another option for experience and loot farms through repeatable Act bosses.
Given thatDiablo 4’s first seasonlaunches in mid-July, it’s a feature that might arrive further down the line. Though criticism of its absence at launch isn’t entirely unwarranted, it may be best if Blizzard had the chance to examine the state of the endgame inDiablo 4during seasonal gameplay, and then decide how to best implement Act bosses into the mix.
Diablo 4is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
